Dromard club notes

May 23, 2016

Jack Boothman (RIP): Dromard GAA would like to extend its sympathy to the family of Iar-Uachtaráin Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jack Boothman, on his recent sad passing. Jack served as Uachtaráin from 1994-1997 and performed the official opening of Páirc Na nGael on Sunday 20th April 1997. Jack will be fondly remembered by all in Dromard GAA.

This week also saw the passing of Joe McDonagh, Jack Boothman's successor as GAA President from 1997-2000. Ar dheis De go raibh a n-anamnacha.

Senior League Division 1: Killoe 1-21 Dromard 1-10. Dromard suffered defeat to a superior Killoe side in this senior league Division 1 tie played in Emmet Park on Sunday last. Dromard got off to a bright start and established a 1-1 to no score lead after 8 minutes, the Dromard goal coming from a Francis McGee penalty after a foul on Peter Mimnagh. Killoe gradually began to win more possession but Dromard still held a 1-4 to 3 points lead after 20 minutes of the first half. At half time, the scores were level, 1-6 to Killoe's 0-9 with Dromard contesting strongly. The Dromard challenge faded after the break as the hosts began to dominate possession. Dromard added four scores to their half-time total but Killoe finished strongly to collect both league points. Best wishes to Niall Vance and Michael Reilly who picked injuries during the game. Dromard lined out as follows: Gavin McNerney, Peter Masterson, Niall Vance, Michael Reilly, David Pettit, Emmet Masterson, Pauric Martin, Diarmuid Masterson, Bernard Sheridan, Paul McGee, Francis McGee, Peter Reynolds, James Martin, Peter Mimnagh, Cian Mimnagh. St. Francis Dromard Minor Club

U16: Hard luck to our u16 amalgamation, Na Naomh, who lost their league final on Thursday last. The lads came up against a strong and well organised Western Gaels team who came out on top on the day. A great comeback was cut short as some ill discipline left the lads with too big a mountain to climb. Thanks to Sean and Gary for all their work with the team to date.

First Aid: A first aid course will be ran in the comings week's by the Minor club. If you are in any way involved with an underage team or just interested in taking part please talk to a member of the Minor executive or stay tuned to club texts.

Registration: There are still a handful of players who have not yet registered. If your child has not been registered yet please ensure you contact a member of the Minor executive asap.

Dromard Ladies Notes

Results/Fixtures: Our Senior Panel had two Div 2 Fixtures this week last but unfortunately Killashee were unable to field due to a funeral in the parish. Our condolences go to Dan Magan on the death of his sister and to the girls on the panel who would have been related to her. Our thanks must go to Killashee in conceding the points instead of insisting on a re-fixture. On Sunday we were due to play local rivals Colmcille but they were unable to raise a team at the last minute and had to concede. This has not been ideal preparation for the Div 2 semi-final which sees us at home to Ballymore this Wednesday however it is what it is and we have to hope that the lack of match practice does not harm our chances of progressing to the final. All support will be much appreciated on the night,so get down to Pairc Na nGael and cheer this team on.

By the time you read these notes our u/12 panel will have played their Championship Final against Clonguish and whether they have won or not they can still reflect on a good season. The semi-final against Mullinalaghta saw them play some delightful football against good opposition and deservedly progress to the final (see report of match elsewhere in the notes).

This Thursday 26th May sees the start of our u/14 Championship when we entertain Killoe in Pairc Na Gael, throw in 7pm, so no rest for those u/12 players who are playing on this panel to enable us to field at this age group. We thank them for their efforts in supporting their older counterparts and showing that the team ethic is well to the fore throughout the club. On Tuesday 31st May the u/16 Summer League gets under way with a home match against Carrickedmond throwing in at 7pm.

Registration: The last day for registration is 31st May so can anybody who is still to sign up please contact our registrars,Niamh Cooke or Doireann Mimnagh ASAP otherwise your daughter will be unable to play football for Dromard this season. Our thanks go to the majority of parents who managed to register early in the month. This makes life so much easier for us and avoids the last minute rush.

U12 Girls set for Championship Final: Our U12 team overcame Mullinalaghta in the semi-final on Monday last and now face Clonguish in the Championship final this Monday 23rd May 6:15pm in Pearse Park. We got off to a good start with an early point from Orlaith McGahren which was swiftly followed by a goal from Leah Duffy. Following this early lead the girls continued to build on the scores with some fine passages of play, but it has to be said that the Mullinalaghta girls played some great football and converted some lovely scores themselves. We went into the break leading on a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-3 and the second half started just like the first; with a well taken point from Orlaith McGahren. We now face Clonguish on Monday evening next and despite finding ourselves without the services of an injured Siobhan Murphy we know that the girls will put their heart and soul into the game and do themselves proud. Team and scorers: Louise Tierney, Nicole Conboy, Rhiannagh Lennon, Orlaith MaGahern (0-2), Ellie Reynolds, Brianna Murphy, Avril Cosgrove (1-1), Tamara Cosgrove (0-1), Aisling Farrell, Siobhan Murphy (1-1), Leah Duffy (1-0), Kate O'Connor. Kate McEntire (2-1), Alyssa McErlean, Lauren Conboy, Melanie Reilly, Elena O'Reilly, Naoise Hourican and Caoimhe Kearney.

Many of this u12 team are on the Community Games panel and travel to Trim, Co. Meath to represent the County in the Community Games Leinster competition, best of luck to all involved.

Congratulations: Well done to our very own Mairead Reynolds for being selected to represent Leinster at the weekend in the inter provincial tournament. We in Dromard are so proud of you and all that you do for our club. It was well deserved honour.

Birthdays: Only one this week and that is Abi Duffy. Although she is carrying an injury at the moment this will surely be no hindrance in celebrating her 15th Birthday. Enjoy the day Abi.
