Dromard Ladies Notes

Strictly Dromard: This Friday 29th April in Slieve Russell Hotel Ballyconnell at 8pm. Doors open 7pm. All support on the night, especially for officers and parents representing Ladies Club will be greatly appreciated. Bring your banners and flags girls and roar us on!!! There are Buses running from Goalpost and Murtagh's to save you driving, so contact Enda or Pat to book seats.

Underage Training: This will be cancelled this Saturday morning girls,as your trainers will be tired and possibly a bit fragile after the previous night's excitement in Ballyconnell. Thanks to everybody for a great turnout at registration last Saturday. It makes Niamh and Doireann's job so much easier to get it all done in one go. There are a few still outstanding, so could we ask those parents who were unable to be there last Saturday to contact the two girls or Bernie asap to ensure their children are registered and thus able to play this season. Thanks

Results and Fixtures: The busiest panel this week were our u/12's who played 2 matches during the week, unfortunately coming up a little bit short in both of them. See reports elsewhere. This leaves them with 2 wins and 2 defeats so far. They have had a bye on Monday just gone, so time to recharge the batteries for their last 2 games. So give it your best shot girls and lets see where that leaves us. Our u/16's also had a bye last week and now look forward to a home semi-final on Thurs 28th April versus Ballymore. Lets really get our supporters behind this group as they look to secure their place in this years B Championship Final. Our Senior Panel  continued their fine season on Sunday with an emphatic win over Ballymore and now look forward to a Division 2 game this Sunday away to Ballymahon. Great credit for their performances this year must go to Paddy Dowd, who gave them a great pre-season. Also a special mention to both Sean McNerney and Elaine Sheridan who are standing over the panel this year, we hope your continued dedication and enthusiasm will reap the rewards it deserves.

Match Reports: We hosted St. Brigids Ardagh in the u12 competition on Monday evening last. After throw in, on an evening with perfect weather conditions, it proved difficult for either team to get a score on the scoreboard and after 8 minutes of a stalemate it was Ardagh who finally got the scoring off to a start with a well taken point. Our girls worked hard and the backs thwarted many a strong attack making it very difficult for Ardagh to stretch out their lead. Despite the stellar work by the back and midfields it proved too difficult a task for us to break through the Ardagh defence and we went into the break trailing 1-4 to 0-0. The second half saw us enjoy more possession and we were unlucky not to register more than a solitary point (Siobhan Murphy). Alas at that stage the damage had been done and it was the physically superior Ardagh team that came away with the points on a scoreline of 2-5 to 0-1. Special mention must go to a couple of the older girls on the team who worked their socks off when the going got tough; Avril Cosgrove, Nicole Conboy, Orlaith McGahren and Brianna Murphy. Indeed all 17 girls got a run and worked hard when they were on the pitch. Unfortunately the game saw us pick up a couple of injuries and in particular we wish a speedy recovery to Brianna Murphy who picked up a nasty hand injury.

Team: Louise Tierney, Orla McGahren, Nicole Conboy, Kate O'Connor, Lauren Conboy, Rhiannagh Lennon, Brianna Murphy, Avril Cosgrove, Asiling Farrell, Alyssa McErlean, Tamara Cosgrove, Siobhan Murphy, Leah Duffy, Ellie Reynolds, Naoise Hourican, Caoimhe Kearney and Melanie O'Reilly.

Dromard u12 girls played Grattan Og in a refixed match on Thursday evening last in Pairc na nGael. Good weather and pitch conditions allowed for a fast paced, open game that ended in a narrow one point for the visitors. Dromard got the scoreboard going with a well worked goal finished to the back of the net by Siobhan Murphy however Grattans girls responded with 2 goals of their own and at half time lead 2-1 to 1-2. In a very exciting second half both teams showing skill and determination to gain a lead over the other and it looked like the contest would end in a draw only for Grattan's to convert a last minute free at a tricky angle to win out on a scoreline of 6-3 to 4-4. Team and scorers: Louise Tierney, Leah Duffy, Nicole Conboy, Kate O'Connor, Lauren Conboy, Rhiannagh Lennon, Tamara Cosgrove (0-1), Avril Cosgrove (1-1), Orlaith McGauren, Ellie Reynolds, Alyssa McErlean, Siobhan Murphy (2-2), Kate McEntire, Naoise Hourican, Elena O'Reilly (1-0),Aisling Farrell, Melanie Reilly, Caoimhe Kearney.
