Denis Connerton is expected to be confirmed as Longford's new football manager at a county board meeting this day week.
The Longford Leader is reporting that Connerton will have Ciaran Fox as his assistant and that the pair will make a presentation to the county board's exeuctive committee next Tuesday before being put before a full county board meeting 48 hours later for ratification.
Both men had been nominated along with minor selector Eugene McCormack to succeed Jack Sheedy, with the latter having withdrawn his name.
"Eugene is involved with a lot - his club, the Longford minors and other things. He just felt he was unable to go forward this time around," Longford chairman Brendan Gilmore said.
Connerton previously managed the O'Farrell County between 2004 and 2007, during which he guided them to Division 1 of the Allianz League where they recorded a famous victory over Kerry. He has since steered Longford Slashers to three county titles in the space of four years.
