Hot favourite for the Longford senior football manager's job, Denis Connerton was keeping his cards close to his chest when asked about the vacant role.

The Longford Slashers' manager is believed to be one of three candidates to replace Jack Sheedy as manager of the Midlanders.

However, Connerton whose son Liam made a telling contribution in his first year on the team, was remaining coy when asked about his interest in the position by the Longford Leader.

"All I am doing is concentrating on Slashers," said Connerton. "We are in peak season and we are flat out. It's a process and one that will come to an ultimate conclusion. We will just have to wait and see what nominations come in from delegates.

"I'd prefer not to talk about it at the minute as it would be seen as bad manners to Slashers."
