Longford manager Jack Sheedy has admitted that he is eager to stay on in the role for another year.

The Midlanders campaign came to an end when Kildare inflicted a heavy defeat on them in last Saturday's All-Ireland qualifiers.

It was the second year in a row that Longford were eliminated by a heavy scoreline, but they did gain promotion in the league.

And the former Dublin players states in the Longford Leader that if he was to remain in charge, he wants all players committed to the cause.

"I'm sure the executive will sit down and have a chat but I would like the opportunity to stay on. I think there is more progression for us and hopefully that opportunity will be there," said Sheedy.

"You need everyone available. I have no agenda with any club or any player, in any way. Football in the county is doing the best that it can in the circumstances.

"Hopefully lads will see the level of progress that was made this season and we might get a few lads to fully commit next year."
