Longford boss Jack Sheedy was raging over Diarmuid Masterson's controversial sending off against Kildare.

A bad day for Longford was compounded by the centre back's bizarre 47th minute dismissal. Referee Derek O'Mahoney flashed a yellow card before showing the Dromard player a red, while he also angered the blue and golds by downgrading a penalty to a throw-in.

"It was a disgrace, and out-and-out disgrace," Sheedy said of the Masterson sending off.

"There was no yellow card to begin with. The linesman, I asked him after the game and I asked him at the time why Diarmuid Masterson was sent off and he said because it was violent conduct or something to that effect.

"There was no violent conduct, Diarmuid Masterson went into separate guys, it was obvious, as plain as the nose on your face and he made a bad call on that."

Commenting on the over-ruled penalty decision, Sheedy said: "He gave a penalty. He waved it and then he changed his mind. Was he thinking about the (Cork-Kerry) game last weekend? Surely if it wasn't a penalty it was a free and then he threw the ball up - he double-whammied his decision in the first place."

Despite his team being on the receiving end of two heavy defeats this summer, the former Dublin star is eager to remain at the helm for a third season.

"I want to stay on as manager. We have had a very tough season," he continued.

"We were missing a number of players. However, the young players who came in have really livened it up."
