Longford midfielder Michael Quinn believes the next generation of the county's footballers are stepping up to the mark.

Gone are the days when Longford looked to the likes of Paul Barden or even Brian Kavanagh for leadership as the younger generation are taking up that mantle.

Longford saw off the challenge of Clare last weekend, despite having Diarmuid Masterson sent off and now they face Kildare at Cusack Park, Mullingar on Saturday evening.

All the guys are stepping up. I get a great kick and satisfaction out of seeing lads taking the opportunity because I see big things to come for Longford in the future," said Quinn.

"I could see there was an edge to training. After the Croke Park defeat, this is progress. It is huge to get consistency for Longford because that is what has been lacking in recent years."
