Odds: One bridge too far for Westmeath

The challenge that awaits Westmeath in Croke Park next Sunday is illustrated by the fact that Ladbrokes have priced Dublin at 1/100 to capture their ninth Delaney Cup in 10 years.

Tom Cribbin and his players will have taken massive encouragement from their Lazarus-like second-half comeback against Meath last Sunday week but they are rated 20/1 outsiders to pull off what would rank as, arguably, the greatest ever upset in gaelic football history.

The beauty of sport is that anything is possible but you would have to expect that this game is one bridge too far for the Ger Egan captained underdogs.

A much-closer affair is expected down south in the Munster SHC final with Tipperary (2/5) fancied to see off the challenge of Waterford (12/5).

The Premier County caught the eye in their 4-23 to 1-16 semi-final dismantling of Limerick but the Deise will enter the decider in a confident frame of mind following their outright league success.

The draw is available at 9/1.

It's a busy weekend of GAA action coming up as there are a total of eight qualifier games across football and hurling down for decision on Saturday and Sunday.

In the small ball code, the meeting of Clare and Cork will generate plenty of interest and the Banner are 5/6 to repeat their All-Ireland final replay success of two years ago. Jimmy Barry-Murphy's Rebels are a 6/5 shot.

Limerick, meanwhile, are 8/11 favourites to negotiate Dublin (11/8) despite their lack lustre showing against Westmeath in Mullingar last Sunday.

Armagh, Derry, Tipperary, Tyrone and Roscommon are all fancied to advance through the football back door.

Anyone looking for an outside bet, could do a lot worse than place a few bob on Fermanagh. The Ernesiders are sure to make life difficult for the Rossies in Brewster Park and 9/4 represents good value.
