Emmet Og club notes

June 29, 2015

Pride of place this weeks goes our minor club Killoe Òg, members of whom had great results at the weekend. On Friday our under 14 team and management travelled to the All Ireland Fèile Peile Nà Nòg competition 2015 which took place this year in counties Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow. Having played two games on Friday and two games on Saturday we found ourselves on Sunday morning in the semi final in Dr. Cullen Park against Cavan Gaels. A fine performance in the semi saw us proceed to the final where unfortunately we went down to a strong Ferbane team. Our players and mentors carried themselves with dignity and pride over the course of the weekend and made many new friends along the way. What a great experience for our young stars to be competing with and holding their own against some of the strongest teams in the country. Who knows how many times these young lads will face off against the stars of Ferbane with club and county over their playing careers. See minor club notes for full analysis.

On Saturday the Longford minor team backboned by Michael Hughes, Ryan Moffett, David McCarthy and  Shane Thompson produced a magnificent hours football to beat favourites Meath in the Leinster semi final. They have now progressed to the Leinster final against Kildare which will be played as the curtain raiser to the Leinster Senior final.

Well done to all those involved with both our under 14 team and the county minor team.

The senior club again had no games at the weekend, with Colmcille not fulfilling the senior B championship game on Friday evening. Round 2 of the senior B championship took place on Tuesday evening against Drumlish. Please see fixtures and results for full details. This coming weekend our junior team are at home to Ardagh on Sunday while the semi finals of the senior B championship are also down for decision.

Best wishes to the Longford senior team on Saturday evening with their tricky qualifier away to Clare.

Our lotto draw took place in The Olde Forge on Sunday night for a jackpot of €4,300 and the numbers drawn were 2,3,17 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. € 20 winners were Austin Hughes, Ennybegs, Michael Lynch, Clonrollagh, Natasha Loughrey, Ennybegs, Brendan Lennon, Clontumpher and Lisa Kelly, Ardnacassa while this weeks sellers prize went to Frankie Toher. Well doe Austin and all the prize winners.

As the summer kicks off so to does our busiest and most expensive part of the year with medical, physio and miscellaneous expenses growing due to the volume of games and demand on players. Our lotto is our only week to week source of funding with all profits from it used to finance the club. We urge all our supporters to continue to play our lotto, either locally, or on line. Discounted bulk lotto membership is also available from any club member, €100 for a full year, €50 for 6 months and €25 for 3 months. Thanks again to all who play our lotto regularly.

Finally we offer our sympathies to Farley family Colmcille, especially Julia Murphy, Corneddan on the death of Mary Farley last week. We also extend our deepest sympathies to the McManus ad Keogh families on their recent bereavements.
