Sheedy pleased to seal promotion early

Jack Sheedy was glad Longford managed to clinch promotion with a game to spare.

The midlanders assured themselves of a place in Division Three next year by virtue of a 0-13 to 0-10 victory over Offaly at Pearse Park on Sunday.

The win spares them the hassle of having to travel to Dr Cullen Park this weekend needing a result. "It's what I was hoping for because I didn't want to go to Carlow looking for a result, where nerves would be jangling a lot more. A win over Offaly was what we needed," Sheedy told The Longford Leader.

But the former Dublin midfielder still wants to keep the momentum going with another victory this weekend ahead of the Division Four decider: "It's a game that we want to win," he confirms.

"There are a lot of lads that need game time. We have a lot of guys who have worked hard that didn't see game time and Sunday is a chance to look at that. We will put out a strong team against Carlow."
