Dromard GAA Club Notes

Sympathy: The club wish to extend sincere sympathy to Jimmy Reilly and family, Firmullagh on the death of Jimmy's sister Anne Daly in Kinconly Co. Galway during the week. Condolences also to Peggy Brady and family, Ballyduffy on the death of Peggy's sister Belinda in the United States recently. Condolences also to the family of the late John Maguire,Navan and formerly from Clonback, brother of the late Frank Maguire R.I.P, who died during the week.

Second Squad: Training for all players, 18 and upwards. Any players who are not currently on the senior panel but plan to play Reserve League 1 or Division 3 are strongly encourage to attend senior training, which in itself is at a comfortable pace at this time of year. Next session is Wednesday night at 8pm on the 3G.  If you do not wish to patriciate in that, there is soccer on in the 3G, please call Martin McGee 086 0880923 for details.

Newsletter: We are looking for anyone interested in becoming involved with a small group of people to produce a Newsletter. While a number of people are required, this may especially be an opportunity for third level students or second level students who are studying, wish to gain experience for their CV's, are in transition year, or have an interest in Publishing, Media, Community Development,or WebDesign, etc. Please drop an email to [email protected] or call 087 3364408.

Team Managers, Coaches, Selectors, Umpires, Fundraising, Development, First Aid, and Refereeing: If you have an interest in volunteering for any of these positions at either adult or underage level the club would be very interested in hearing from you. Talk on the effects of concussion: This is being organised and take place in the next few weeks. Anyone with any contribution please contact the Club Secretary on 0866041980.

Ladies Keep Fit, Weight Loss  and Toning Classes:  Are available in the clubhouse on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, catering for every age group, no matter what you pace is. Your health is you wealth, make that decision, call Abi on 086 6632968 for details.

Gaeltacht Scholarships: The 2015 GAA Gaeltacht Scholarship forms are now available for anyone interested in attending the Gaeltacht this year. All applicants must be 13 years or older on 1st January 2015. If interested please contact 0864017301 for the form and any further information

Longford Coaching Foundation Courses: The second night of the course will run in St. Mel's College Sports Hall on the 25th of February from 7pm to 10pm each night.

U21 Leinster Championship: Good luck to the Longford Under 21 Team and our rep Ross McNerney who play Wicklow in the Leinster U21 Championship in Newtowncashel tonight, Wednesday the 25th, at 7:30pm

Senior Club February Monthly Meeting: Will be this Thursday night at 8:15pm in the clubhouse. If as many as possible could turn out including players as a number of items to be discussed which effects the senior panels.

Schools Coaching which is been run by Longford Coaching & Games; This will run weekly for 8 weeks up until the Easter holidays. This Thursday the 26th will see the 1st year boys from Moyne CS attend the Longford Coachings's Post Primary Pella in Edgeworthstown Community Campus

GAA Annual Congress in Ballyconnell on Saturday: Great to see that the big event is just down the road. Out of interest a sample of the motions are: To allow for the black card in hurling, to play extra-time in drawn championship matches, to deal with concussion, to reduce the number of consecutive hand passes, to reduce the number of steps by the player in possession, to further amend the closed season rules, to requite county panels to be named by the Thursday before game, to raise the minimum age to 17 to play county senior, to remove the Quarter Final games from All Ireland  minor football championships, to give Central Council power to authorise county grounds for non-GAA games, and to allow each province to organise their provincial competitions.

County Seniors: Best wishes to the Longford County Seniors including our own contingent in the tricky assignment that is London in Ruislip this Saturday the 28th at 2pm.

Ballymore GFC's 'De Kube':  Why not support Emmet Masterson representing Dromard GAA in his fundraising efforts for the club and at the same time support Ballymore in their biggest ever fundraiser, in aid of redeveloping their facilities at Ballybrien. It is being held this  Saturday, Feb the 28th in the Longford Arms Hotel, check Longford Leader for start time. Moyne C.S will also be participating.  Emmet, you're already a winner!

Code of Ethics Course is in Longford Slashers this Monday the 2nd of March from 7pm to 10pm. Places limited, need to book in advance, contact Damien Sheridan 0879126556.  Course is €10.

Reserve League 1. The first round is on Saturday week the 7th of March in Monaduff v Fr. Manning Gaels at 7:30pm. This will be our first game of 2015, anyone who has not yet started training it's time to hit the park!

Topaz Cash For Clubs: The club is considering entering the Topaz Cash for Clubs initiative whereby they are giving away €200,000 to clubs with each club having a chance to win up to €10,000. It runs until 5pm on the 10th May. More details later, but in the meantime, please make an effort to collect a stamp every time you spend €40 or more on petrol at Topaz filling stations.
