Rathcline Club Notes

The club would like to offer their condolences to the Farrell family on the passing of Eddie Farrell, originally from Tullyvrane. Eddie who was chairman and secretary of the club in the late 1930's was hugely respected in the parish and beyond. He lived to a great age and recently passed the 100 years mark in the Summer. He joined in the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the GAA when he attended Clonbonny a few years back. One of the old stock, his nephew still remains in Tullyvrane. He played football for St Mels and Rathcline, and was an avid Man Utd fan, but will be fondly remembered for his work with his local club. May he rest in peace.
The 50/50 draw is going from strength to strength, and thanks to everyone that donates their €2 every week. A special thanks to the sellers and buyers as without their help the club would be struggling. This week's winner was Aidan Ganley, The Green, who won €315, the draw for this week takes place in The Peer.
Our final Lotto draw took place on Saturday, we would like to heartily thank our patrons for supporting our draw throughout the years. A lot of work has been done with the pitch and its with everyone's help that we strive to pay back the loan through fundraisers like this one. The final winners were Hilary O Sullivan, Main St, Michael Shanley Killashee, James P Quinn Aghakeel, and Tom Maxwell Thureen.
Congrats to our U 21 team who defeated Ardagh in the 1st round of the championship on Saturday. Western Gaels proved worthy winners in the end with well taken goals and points. Well done to the management and squad, we wish them the very best in upcoming games.
Strictly Come Dancing is well and truly under way with participants practicing eagerly at weekends. Anyone that I have spoken to has been putting in huge effort for the fundraiser in November. It has captured the imagination of the dancers and hopefully will be well attended by people from both Rathcline and Faithleachs. There are buses organised for people that want to travel and for any more info on what promises to be a great event, please contact Lorraine Farrell or Pat Connerton for more details.
The Ali Smyth tournament takes place on the 1st of November in Clonbonny at 3 pm against Garrycastle. This is always a decent game and extremely competitive. It's a wonderful way to support the memory of a woman who meant so much to so many people. A true warrior and lady off the pitch, it's always a game that invokes the spirit that Allison had and they way she played the game of football and life, please support.
Last Sunday, some of our players and Chairman stripped of for a calendar to raise funds for St Christophers and Pieta House. A huge thanks to Gerard Farrell, Daithi Mulvihill, Eoin Sorohan and Kevin Chappy Chapman. The lads sucked in their guts, smiled politely, and acted like models in the buff, all for a good cause. Seemingly Chappy has been inundated with full time model offers, Louise acting as manager has remained tight lipped on the subject, well done to all, please keep an eye on our facebook page for red hot photos but again thanks to everyone who took part.
