Shane Mulligan will fulfil a lifelong ambition when he captains Mullinalaghta in today's Longford SFC final against Killoe.

The county man is hoping to become the first St. Columba's captain since 1950 to lift the Connolly Cup in what will be their first SFC final appearance in 62 years.

"This is the ultimate match," Mulligan told the Longford Leader.

"This has always been the one that I only could ever dare dream of - to get to a senior club championship final. For years you have been going into finals watching other teams in action and you do wonder 'could it ever happen to you'.

"To get to experience that now with the people closest to you is brilliant and the reality is a great feeling.

"Our latest crop of minors have pushed us on and strengthened the panel. These guys have been successful the whole way through their promising underage careers, particularly so in secondary school in winning All-Ireland titles with Cnoc Mhuire, Granard.

"The young lads have added that winning mentality to the Mullinalaghta club and it has given us a good balance, blending in well with the older lads who have had to endure some hard and tough times on the pitch in the past."
