McCormack plays down favourites' tag

October 02, 2014

Killoe boss Tommy McCormack says his side don't see themselves as favourites for this Sunday's Longford SFC final against Mullinalaghta.

The Emmet Ogs are bidding for their second county title in three years, having been knocked out by eventual winners Longford Slashers last year, but their manager believes their form to date can't rank them as favourites for this weekend's decider.

"People have put that tag on us for whatever reason but that's not how we see it in our camp," McCormack told the Longford Leader newspaper.

"We have had a lacklustre sort of league campaign and haven't been convincing in some championship games. It is one hour of football and anything can happen. Look at Dublin, everyone said they were unbeatable and after 70 minutes they were out of the championship."

McCormack has been pleased by the fact that his side's scoring tallies have been shared amongst the team this season, rather than being over reliant on one single player.

"The lads have shared a lot of the scoring. We don't depend on the same one or two players to get us over the line," he said.

"I would be hoping that every Killoe player will come in with their contribution. We have been lucky in that we have a god panel with plenty of youth."
