Rathcline Club Notes

July 21, 2014
Well done to our Rathcline team who defeated Legan in the first round of the intermediate championship on Sunday. The score at half time was 1 6 to 3pts in favour of Rathcline. A tight scrappy affair in the first half, with Rathcline taking their scoring opportunities well. Legan played with the wind but Rathcline were staunch in defence and worked the ball out well on many occasions. Again it was the middle third where the main battle took place. Some decent hand passing and quick ball into the forward line kept Legan on the back foot. Legan came out with purpose in the second half, it was at times a very tough tackling match, but Rathcline held their discipline and created and scored an excellent second goal. The defence worked hard again for the remainder of the match as Legan tried in vain to get themselves back into the game. An excellent save from a penalty by David Mulvihill in the last minute meant the score line at the end was Rathcline 2 8 Legan 5 points. Our next match is at the weekend where we take on Carrickedmond in the league. Thanks for all the support, please check the fixture list for time and venue of the match and to the team and management we say well done!

Clonbonny played host to the first round of two Intermediate championship games on Saturday. Big thanks to all who helped out stewarding, lining the pitch and getting the logistics right for a sizeable crowd at both matches. Very much appreciated by the club.

Rathcline Minor Club

Well done to our minor team who beat Slashers last Monday. The team are now in a shield semi final. Keep up the good work. The U 16's beat Southern Gaels in the last game of the special league. It was an epic comeback from our lads and well done to all involved. The U 14's had a challenge against Kenagh/Moydow and won so things going well at that level also. The U 12's had a great day in Ccroke Park, all well behaved we hear, thanks to the organisers and adults who looked after our U 12's. The minor club are holding a sportsday on Saturday of the bank holiday. The club are looking for stewards to help out on the day. It's a nice way to showcase the talent that's involved in the minor club but ith every event we need volunteers, if you would like to help out please contact Sean Kenny, Brendan Keane and Seadna Ryan.

Finally if anyone is interested in the Galway Races there are a few seats left. A class day out as what was proved last year and the senior, ladies and minor club are heading off again on Monday next. Please contact Sean Kenny if interested.

Rathcline Ladies

The spot light fell on the U 14s girls last week as they took on Clonguish in the final. Pearse Park was the venue and our girls who played brilliantly. They were too strong at times for Clonguish but that was down to the work ethic and skill on show. The link up play, defending and attacking was of a very high standard and the future looks good if the girls all stay together. A wonderful team performance and some excellent score taking saw Rathcline run out emphatic winners. Well done to the whole squad and also to the management team of Steve and Marie Peters, Mike Greene and Madeline Murray.
