Brady leaves Colmcille and eyes Gowna return
November 20, 2008
Ciaran Brady has decided to step down from his position as Colmcille manager and pursue another year of playing with his native club, Gowna.
Brady led Colmcille to their first Longford SFC title in 50 years back in September and has decided to part company with the club following their Leinster club championship exit at the hands of Carlow champions Éire Óg last Sunday.
The former Cavan senior made it known to the club earlier in the week that he would be stepping aside and thanked officials for their support during the two years he has been in charge of the team. He also brushed aside any rumours that he was leaving because of a lack of commitment issue among the players, saying "that it couldn't be further from the truth".
"It required a major effort from all of the players to go from getting hammered in the quarter-finals in 2006 to reaching the final in 2007 and then winning it the following year," said Brady.
"I'm full of praise for every player on that panel for the effort they put in while I was there, but my two years are up now and I'm hoping to return to play with my own club next year."
