New Mullinalaghta manager Finbarr O’Reilly leads his side into championship action for the first time this weekend.

O’Reilly has massive boots to fill after his county colleague Mickey Graham guided the club to a coveted three in a row of Longford senior football championships, while last December, they caused one of the biggest shocks ever by defeating highly fancied Dublin outfit Kilmacud Crokes in the provincial decider.

Nonetheless, the former Cavan footballer is looking forward to the challenge ahead which starts with a clash against St Mary’s Granard.

“It was fantastic to be considered and to be head hunted for the position. I thought about it for a couple of days, but I think it was a no-brainer,” O’Reilly told the Longford Leader.

“When you look at the age profile of the players and of the team and they have been dominant in Longford. It was a great challenge to come in and keep that going.

“We have to get our own house in order. Every championship match is going to be difficult whether you are a three-in-a-row champion or one-in-a-row. Our total mindset is to get ourselves ready and the lads in good condition. We will go into each game to win.”
