Longford defender Colm P Smyth is delighted to be back in the side this year having missed the last three years.

Smyth featured in the O’Byrne Cup last December and that was his first appearance in a Longford jersey since 2016.

Last weekend, the Abbeylara clubman played a starring role in the SFC qualifier win over Carlow and he admitted to the Longford Leader that he didn’t know what to expect on his return.

“When you come back there are no promises; you just do your best. Try and get your place in the team,” stated Smyth.

“We have lots of good players. You just try and do your best and hope you get picked. That’s all you can do. It is enjoyable. When you win it’s even better. Hopefully we can get another win in two weeks’ time.”
