Dromard club notes

Sympathy: Dromard GAA extends its sympathy to the Gray and Corrigan families on the death of Gertie Gray (née Corrigan), Garvary. The Club offers its condolence to Gertie’s husband Packie and son Padraig and the extended Gray and Corrigan families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.

Happy Christmas: Dromard GAA would like to wish all our players, members and supporters a very happy Christmas and every best wish for a successful 2019. Thank you to all those who supported the club in different ways throughout the year, including most recently all of you who signed up for our Monthly Members Draw. Your support is instrumental to the successful running of the Club and the activities it provides for our members, players and the local community.

Thank You: The Club would like to thank Padraig O’Brien and the Longford Leader for publishing our weekly club notes and for their excellent coverage of gaelic games in Longford.

O’Byrne Cup: Well done to the Longford senior footballers on their great win over Meath in Ashbourne on Saturday night. Congratulations to Ronan McEntire who played well throughout and to Joseph Hagan who was an effective second-half substitute. As the intercountry season gets underway, the Club would like to wish Padraic Davis, Paul Barden and Donal Ledwith and their backroom team, including especially Dromard’s Danny O’Toole, all the best with their preparations for the National League.

Special Members Draw: The draws for November and December took place at our AGM held on Sunday. The November winners were: €500 to Susan Hourican, Fostra and €100 each to Sean McNaboe, Moyne, Sean Conefrey, Cammagh and Ronan McGlynn, Arva. In the December draw, the €500 prize went to Pauric Sheridan, Legga with €100 each to Vincent Doyle, Enaghan; Gerry and Chris Donohoe, Annagh and Catherine Shannon, Doogra. Thank you to all our members for signing up for the 2018/19 season.

AGM: The AGM of Dromard GAA took place on Sunday 16 December in the Clubhouse and was well attended. In his Secretary’s report, Gerry Sheridan provided a detailed account of Dromard’s on-field activities in 2018. He noted the senior team’s improved league performances in 2018 as well as their good showing in the group stages of the championship. The challenges of fielding a second team were discussed along with the need for players to redouble their efforts in 2019 to ensure a second squad is assembled. The secretary thanked Stephen Reilly and Noel Reynolds for all their work with the second team. He congratulated and thanked the Dromard Healthy Club committee, especially Mary O’Reilly, for all their work and activities. The Secretary also encouraged greater interest and participation by the Club in Senior and Junior Scór in 2019. In his Chairman’s report, Michael O’Reilly thanked the outgoing senior management team, especially manager Sean Hagan, Aidan McCarron, Con McLoughlin, Cathal Conefrey, Danny O’Toole, Peggy Kiernan and Thomas Donohoe. He wished Sean Hagan and Aidan McCarron all the best in their new roles with Gowna. The Chairman congratulated James Martin who in 2018 played his 22nd year of senior football for Dromard. The Chairman also welcomed Niall Sheridan as our new senior team manager for 2019. Both the Secretary and Chairman congratulated Mullinalaghta on their magnificent achievements in 2018. On behalf of the Club, the Chair extended his sympathy to all families who were bereaved during 2018, especially the McGee family, Smear, on the passing of Gemma and the McGee family, Drumlish, on the death of Danny. The Chairman noted the departure of our parish Priest Fr Eamon Corkery in August and wished him well in his retirement. He also sent the Club’s best wishes to our Assistant Treasurer John Joe Donohoe who is recovering from illness. He thanked all Dromard supporters and all those who helped with the running of the club during the year and during his three-year tenure as Chairman. He congratulated the Chairman of the Minor Club, Tommy O’Neill, on his marriage during the year and thanked him for his work. Treasurer Dermot Reilly presented the financial statements for 2018. He thanked everyone who sign up for the Monthly Members Draw which is now the Club’s main source of income. The election of Club officers for 2019 was held over for a special meeting on Friday 4 January 2019.

 

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Dromard Foroige: Dromard Foroige would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported their bake sale on Sunday last. It was a great success with plenty of delicious goodies on offer. The prize winners of the lovely hampers were Leah Duffy, Noeleen Reilly and Alice Donnelly. Congratulations also to Cormac Mulligan for guessing the correct amount of sweets in the jar. Well done to all who organised and got involved with the bake sale.

Dromard Ladies AGM: This meeting was held last Friday. All the committee positions were filled by people agreeing to carry on for another year which is superb. However, the position of Secretary is yet to be filled as Imelda has stepped down this year due to essential wedding planning. Anyone willing to fulfil this role please contact her on 0860875602.

Fuel Draw: Tickets are now available in the local shops and from all members. Anyone outside of the club wishing to support us by selling tickets can contact 0873540795 and we will leave some into them.

Birthdays: A few Christmas birthdays to be celebrated in the coming weeks. Aeídín Mimnagh, one of our Senior Panelists who is studying and working in Scotland, celebrates her birthday on Christmas Day. Another Senior panelist, Shauna O'Reilly who is studying in Kerry will turn 21 on Friday week. Clodagh Duffy will turn 17 on St. Stephens day. Siobhán and Brianna Murphy will be 14 on Saturday and Alyssa McErlean will turn 14 on Sunday week and last but by no means least, Roisín Bohan will turn 9 on Sunday. We hope that Santa is good to you all and that you all enjoy your Christmas Holidays!

We would also like to welcome everyone who has come home to Ireland for the Christmas Holidays and may the New Year bring joy and laughter to all, both home and away!
