Longford manager Padraic Davis admits that it is great to have the experience of Colm P Smyth back in the squad.

The Abbeylara midfielder made his return to the squad in last Saturday night’s O’Byrne Cup win over Wicklow at Allen Park.

Davis admitted to the Longford Leader that having a player of Smyth’s calibre in the side was a positive for the squad going forward.

Smyth was introduced as a half time substitute and contributed a point in the narrow win over an ultra defensive Wicklow side.

“It’s mighty to see Colm P back. He has a lot of experience after playing in four county finals. Good to get him back on the field; to steady the ship and he got a point as well. It’s a big help and we welcome that,” said Davis.

The former county star added that a number of players had been drafted in from development squads to give them the experience of being involved in the panel.

“We brought in a few lads who are part of a development squad. It’s good to have those lads in the dressingroom. They didn’t get game time but they are seeing what this is all about and keeping all those guys involved. Our door is open to anyone who wants to play for Longford.”
