Dromard club notes

October 01, 2018

Sympathy: Dromard GAA extends its sympathy to the Moore family on the death of John (Sonny) Moore, Cleenrath. The club offers its condolences to John and David and the extended McKenna, Donohoe and Nicholl families on the sad passing on Saturday last of Martin McKenna, London and formerly of Gortamone. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamneacha.

Dromard Athletics:  A meeting was held recently in the clubhouse for all parents of the children who are registered for athletics.  As discussed and agreed we will be implementing the Longford Athletics Code of Conduct and best practice rules.  We need each parent to sign the Code of Conduct form prior to the children returning to Athletics.  We also require at least 8 volunteers to enable Athletics to continue in Dromard, unfortunately we have only had 2 offers so far, as such we are appealing for any parents who are available to help to please contact any coach, absolutely no experience necessary.  We will require all parents to fill out the garda vetting form also.  All children under 9 must have a guardian / parent inside the astro turf for the duration of each training session in line with Longford AC rules.  If we do not get a significant response we will regrettably be unable to resume athletics in Dromard, however, all children currently registered will be entitled to attend Longford Athletics on Friday Evenings in the Mall up until December.

Selection for Ireland: Congratulations to Ellen Murphy, Annagh, who has been selected on the Ireland senior women’s rugby squad for the upcoming Autumn internationals. The multitalented Ellen is also a key member of the Dromard ladies football panel. Her selection for Ireland is a great honour for the club and parish and we wish her and her teammates the best of luck in their preparations for the upcoming games.

Fitness Classes: Classes continue in the Clubhouse with Yoga on Monday nights at 8pm.

Dromard Healthy Clubs: A reminder of the four-week bootcamp with LC Fitness which started last week. The bootcamp will run every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6.30am. Please contact any member of the committee for further details or LC Fitness directly.

Sunday Morning Walks: Our regular Sunday morning walks have resumed. The walk starts at 9am at the clubhouse. New walkers always welcome.

Active Age: Our Healthy Clubs team have also organised "Range of Movement Class for the Active Age". The classes are held in the clubhouse. The Range of Movement Class will improve Flexibility and Mobility through stretching exercises in a safe and controlled environment keeping you Active for Longer! Come along to try it out with Shane from Mahon Sport and Health Performance! Classes are €5 and will be 50-55 minutes long.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Selection for Ireland: Congratulations to Ellen Murphy, a member of our senior panel, who last week was named on the Ireland senior women’s rugby squad for the upcoming November internationals against the USA and England. This is a fabulous achievement by Ellen and we are extremely proud of her as she becomes the first Dromard ladies player to represent her country.

Minor Championship: Hard luck to our Minor team on their defeat against Colmcille on Sunday. Colmcille 5-9 Dromard 4-10. The girls had an excellent game and they should be very proud of their efforts. Big thanks to all the girls who togged out and also the supporters who showed up to observe and cheer us on. Training continues on Tuesday evening as normal. The next game takes place this coming Sunday against Mullinalaghta and we hope to see more support out at the match in Mullinalaghta.

Birthday: We would like to wish a big Happy Birthday to Sarah Buchanan who will be turning 10 on Saturday. We hope that she enjoys her day and we look forward to seeing Sarah back on the pitch next year!
