Padraic Davis’ has been ratified as Longford's new senior football manager.

Longford chiefs were expected to wait until next week to confirm Davis' appointment, however, the Drumlish native was given the official green light at a special meeting of the county board tonight.

Davis, who played for Longford between 1995 and 2007 and served as a selector with the midlanders from 2011 to 2013 when Glenn Ryan was at the helm, replaces his fellow county man Denis Connerton who stepped down in July after three seasons in charge.

The Fr Manning Gaels clubman also managed the Longford U21s to a Leinster final appearance in 2011 and guided Mohill to two Leitrim SFC titles in recent years.

He is set to include former county team mates Paul Barden and Donal Ledwith as his selectors.
