Dromard club notes

August 13, 2018

Sympathy: Dromard GAA offers its condolences to the Hawkins family, Glenmore, on the death of Helen Hawkins whose funeral took place last week. The Club offers its sympathy to the Corrigan family on the passing of Kathleen Corrigan (nee McNamee), Carrigallen and formerly of Corglass, who passed away recently. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-ainmneacha.

Senior Championship: Best of luck to the senior football panel and management team on Sunday (19 August) against Killoe. Throw in at McGee Park Aughnacliffe is at 1:30pm. We urge all Dromard supporters to come out and get behind the team on Sunday as we aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Congratulations: Well done to Dromard players Aaron Farrell and Fionn Hourican - both members of the Longford U16 football panel - who earned a great victory over Down in the Gerry Reilly Cup Football Tournament on Saturday. Best of luck to Aaron and Fionn and the rest of the panel and their management team in the semi final.

Longford Masters Semi-Final: Best of luck to the Longford team and the Dromard contingent, Noel Reynolds and Jimmy Kiernan, in the Masters Semi Final which will be played in The Downs, Westmeath, this Saturday (18 August) at 1:30pm against Kildare.

St Francis Dromard Minor Club Notes

Gerry Reilly Cup U16 Football Quarter Final: Well done to St Francis Dromard players Aaron Farrell and Fionn Hourican who played their part in Longford's excellent 2-12 to 0-14 win over Down at the Oldcastle GAA grounds on Saturday. Best of luck to all involved in the semi finals to be played next weekend.

Collection: The annual St Francis Minor Club Church Gate Collection will be held this weekend in Legga and Moyne Churches. Please show your support for these young players and their mentors.

Minor League Final:  Going to press the minors will have played the league final on Monday night. Without the benefit of knowing the result, what we can say at this stage is congratulations on getting this far, well done to all involved and the full report will appear in next week's notes.

Bag Pack Fund Raiser: The Minor Club will be carrying out a bag packing fundraiser in the coming weeks.  More details in next week's notes. The minor club would really appreciate hearing from volunteers to make sure that this will be a success.  Please call Tommy O'Neill, John Duffy or any of the minor club officers or mentors.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

County Matters: Hard luck to the ladies who travelled to Inniskeen on Saturday last to play Down in the first relegation play off. Unfortunately they lost 4-9 to 2-5 and now face Fermanagh on Saturday next in the last chance saloon with the loser being relegated back to Junior for next season. Give it your best shot girls, and Dromard will be keeping their fingers crossed for you.

U/14s: We travelled to Ardagh on Thursday last to meet St.Brigids in the Summer League Semi-final. Having lost to the same team only last week in the group stages we knew we had to up our game to stand any chance. Unfortunately we were not able to compete on the night with a very good team, and were soundly beaten. We wish St.Brigids the best of luck in the final, but from what we witnessed over the two games they will hardly need it, and it will take a good team to deny them.

U/8, U/10 Blitz: Held last Saturday in Pairc na nGael, the weather was kind to us and 80+ young ladies enjoyed matches against 5 other parishes. So thanks to Ballymahon/Forgney and St.Barry's Tarmonbarry (who  both travelled long distances) and to Ballymore, Clonguish, Grattans, Drumlish and Killoe for making the morning a great success. We hope you all enjoyed our hospitality. The club would like to thank Thomas and John for having the grounds well set out and in tip top condition. For all the parents who rallied to make buns and sandwiches, although a few more offers would have eased the burden for the reliable few, and especially to Deirdre, Jacinta, Aideen, Betty and Alison who served the children and visiting parents both during and after the matches. And finally to the Senior Ladies who not only prepared the blitz, but also refereed the games and managed the Dromard girls. The way you not only train and play for your own competitions, but are always willing to give your time and experience to all our underage panels, makes our club what it is. Special mention should go to the Reynolds sisters who were on the scene early to make sure everything was able to go to plan, and then hot footed it to Monaghan to play for the County. Now that's dedication! Lastly well done to the following who togged out on the day (some for the first time) Grace Tierney, Ruth Cosgrove, Rachel Gray, Brona Holloway, Natalie McEntire, Evelyn Kiernan, Beibhinn Courtney, Roisin Bohan, Erin Kearney, Grace Duffy, Michaela Farrell, Shauna Reynolds, Siobhan Donohoe and Eaibhin Courtney.

Birthday Greetings: To Kathy Farrell, who will be 17 on Thursday and Leah Duffy who is 14 on Sunday. Happy Birthday girls from all your teammates in Dromard.

Congratulations: To Tom and Linda Bermingham (Martin), great stalwarts and supporters of our Ladies Club on the safe arrival of Daniel, a little brother for older sister Sarah. A lovely gift for a lovely young family.
