Three-in-a-row chasing Mullinalaghta have been kept apart from their biggest challengers for the early rounds of the 2018 Longford senior football championship.

Thrown in a 'group of death' with Killoe Emmet Og, Dromard and Longford Slashers (three previous winners who make up Group 3 this year!), the St Columba's club had to do it the hard way to retain their title last year.

But, Mickey Graham's team have been handed an easier draw this time around after they were pitted in Group 2 against Colmcille, Carrickedmond and St Mary's Granard.

Meanwhile, Abbeylara, runners-up up in 2015, 2016 and 2017, are in Group 1 alongside Clonguish, Mostrim and Ballymahon.

The draw for the Longford intermediate football championship was also made at tonight's county board meeting in Aras Ui Bhriain, Pearse Park.
