Patrickswell GAA notes

May 22, 2017

SENIOR HURLERS: Our Senior hurlers overcame a stringent test from Monaleen to win the City Championship. While Andrew Carroll struck the opening point of the match, it was Monaleen who surged into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead within fifteen minutes. Thankfully, Patrickswell were able to stem the tide and recovered with four points divided between Lar Considine and Jack Kelleher. The scoreboard displayed 0-8 to 0-6 for Monaleen when Kevin O'Brien embarked on a mazy run that ended with a superb solo goal. However, our opponents reached half-time with a 0-12 to 1-7 lead.

The second half produced a better display from the 'Well. Consecutive points from Lar Considine, Kevin O'Brien and Mark Carmody levelled the match at 1-11 to 0-14. The game swung decisively for Gary Kirby's men when Mark Carmody notched a second goal. Patrickswell were able to cement the advantage with points from Jack Kelleher (0-2) and Kevin O'Brien. The result seemed certain with Patrickswell holding a 2-14 to 0-15 cushion with five minutes left. Monaleen drove forward with determination, but they fell short with three points.
