U15 Hurling
Monaleen 1 8 Southside Gaels 1 11
Southside Gaels U15 Hurlers had a very good 1 11 to 1 8 win in their final Championship game away to Monaleen on Monday last.
Unfortunately qualification was out of reach but this team has alot of talent, a good number will be hurling throughout the Summer in the U16 Championship where they currently top the table.
Noel Phelan RIP
St Patricks were saddened at the loss of another member who gave great service to the club in the past week the following is an acknowledgement to Noel Phelan.
Noel joined St Patrick's at a young age and was a member of the Saints teams that completed a minor double in 1952 winning the County minor hurling and football titles.
In 1954 Noel was a member of the Saints team that won the County senior football title the last St Patricks team to do so and also a member of the Saints senior hurling teams that reached the 1957, 1959 and 1966 County finals.
Noel had the distinction of winning Cork senior hurling and football medals in 1963 one of only two players to do so ,when University College Cork completed the double as work brought him to leeside and had memorable battles with the great Christy Ring at this time.
When Noels playing days were over he continued his involvement with St Patrick's and was club secretary for a period and member of the committee for a number of years and was a great supporter and very active within the club. Noel's sons played with the club and his nephews are current playing members.
