INTERMEDIATE HURLERS: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-21 Monagea 3-12. A good hurling display from our intermediate hurlers was unfortunate not to see them pick up a win in the All-County Hurling League against Monagea on a pleasant Saturday evening in Pallaskenry. We were comfortably the stronger team in the first half, utilising the breeze well. Simon Guerin led the attack brilliantly, contributing a number of points from play and was helped on the scoresheet by Evan Considine, Ruairí Maher and Barry O'Connell. Keel Maloney was a tower of strength at centre-back with Adrian Garvey and Barry O'Connell working hard as ever in the middle of the field. However, a sloppy goal conceded before the break meant our lead was only two points at the half-time break.

 

Monagea came flying out of the blocks in the second half and we were hit for two goals in the early stages of the second half. But our lads showed great mental fortitude to regain control following this setback. Barry O'Connell was ever-accurate on the frees and Adrian Garvey, Darren O'Connell and Simon Guerin also hit important scores to push us back into the lead as we approached the final whistle. But Monagea were able to dig deep and got the score they needed to mean that the game finished level on a scoreline of Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-21 Monagea 3-12. 0-21 was a very good score to hit in an hour's hurling and were unlucky for it not to be a winning score.

CITY MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 2-18 St. Patrick's 1-14. Our minor footballers had a great win in their first game of the Championship on Friday evening in Kildimo, racking up a great score in the process. The lads actually had a slow start and it was the visitors from Rhebogue who raced into an early lead, scoring an early goal and opening up a seven-point gap. But once we settled down, we took a firm grip on the game which was never relinquished. Our first-half goal was a big score which really swung the momentum in our favour and brought us well and truly into the game. The ball came into the full-forward line, Naoise McGarrigle broke the ball to Liam Griffin and he retained his composure to slip the ball under the keeper and into the back of the net. 

 

Adam Butler was racking up a lot of scores, both from frees and from play, Liam was very lively in the full-forward line and the kickpassing ability of Mícheál Cuddihy and the all-action display from James Pomeroy were also a joy to behold. We took a two-point lead in at the break and drove on from there. Shaun Barry came forward from full-back to smash a '45 between the uprights, and our forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over. The performance was rounded off with our second goal, as Liam O'Sullivan went on a barnstorming run from centre-back right through the heart of the St. Pat's defence and rifled the ball past the keeper into the far corner. 

 

2-18 is a very impressive score to get in sixty minutes of football, and our lads played an attractive brand of football. Great to get a win on board early in the Championship, and bodes well for the rest of the season.

LIMERICK U-17 HURLERS: The Limerick U-17 hurlers lost to Cork in the Munster Championship, disappointingly, but we would once again like to congratulate Liam Griffin, Shaun Barry, Mikey Hayes and Adam Butler in their achievement in making the matchday panel and we're sure there will plenty more good days ahead for these talented players.

 

LIMERICK SENIOR HURLERS: There was disappointment for Kyle Hayes and the Limerick hurlers as they fell to Galway in the league semi-final last weekend. Everyone involved would like to wish Kyle and the rest of the team the best of luck as they face into the Championship at the start of June.

 

QUIZ FUNDRAISER: Thanks to everyone who supported the quiz night in Clancy's last Thursday night. Congratulations to the winning team of Emmett O'Brien, Mark Lane, Tony Hannon and Michael Ryan who finished with a very impressive score.
