Monaleen GAA Tennis Club Notes

Winter League: The news from the Munster Winter League only gets better for the club! We had another two wins yesterday. Our Ladies Grade 3 team made the journey to St. Anne's Tennis Club in Waterford and came away with an excellent 4-0 win. Well done to Gillian Carragher, Catriona O'Dwyer, Betty O'Brien and Jennifer Colford. While at home, our Grade 5 mixed team of Louise Mullen, Ruth Buckley, Mike McDonagh and Sorin Slavescu beat Cork's Ballinlough Tennis Club 3-1 on a beautiful day for tennis. The men's doubles pairing gave a superb display of tennis in their opening set when winning it 6-0. Showing their more caring side in the second set, they allowed Ballinlough into a 4-1 lead before recovering to win the next 5 games to take the match. Well done boys. Louise and Ruth won their match 6-4 6-2. The two mixed doubles matches were very close with Louise and Mike narrowly losing in a tight third set while Sorin and Ruth won theirs in two sets. Well done.

Our next outing is on Friday when the Grade 6 men welcome Catholic Institute to the club at 7pm. All support is welcome.

Congrats to Gillian Carragher, Pat O'Shaughnessy and Declan O'Dalaigh who recently completed their ITUA Tennis Umpire training with Tennis Ireland and Fergus Murphy [Ireland's ATP Tennis Umpire]. Mind those foot faults, dodgy line calls or on court racquet smashing!  They'll be making a list and checking it twice….hmmm.. J
