Killeedy Bord na nÓg finishes out year on a high

A large crowd of locals gathered in our grounds last Sunday to witness the end of year blitzes for the Magner, Curtin and Jerry Forde Shields for u8, u6 and u12 respectively. The weather was very kind to us and facilities were in tip top condition. We welcomed our rivals and good friends from neighbouring Tournafola, Feoghanagh Castlemahon, Feenagh Kilmeeedy and Newcastle West who brought along their young troops in this annual end of year festival of hurling for all  the children who have worked so hard at the game with their coaches over the year.

The event had all the ingredients of the promotion of our great game of hurling with a mixture of fun, serious hurling and support from all the adults involved with this group. The cup of tea and food brought along and presented by our own parents was literally the icing on the cake making sure that everybody left with feel good factor with what each club in the area is trying to achieve.

The games themselves were all a delight to watch with fantastic skills on display from the very small small to the not so small. Great credit is due to all the coaches who gave tremendous time to these youngsters on Satruday morning ,Wednesday nights and the local blitzes .

A big acknowledgement also to the great work of  our own co-ordinators, Ciara McCoy u8, Margaret Mullany u6, Cecilia Moloney u10, Majella Scanlon u12, Cushla Moran u14 and Aileen Harnett u16 for co-ordinating all the sessions and games. These are the engine of the organisation and are the vital link between parents, children and the Bord na n Óg club.

The final thanks to Margaret Mary Magner and family, Siobhán and Máire Bradley, Margaret Curtin, Joan Browne and family and Pat Hayes for presenting the shields on behalf of their families. The Johnjoe Dore shield will be awarded later in the year to the U16 winners in the opening rounds of the All Ireland junior B Competition.

U8s:

Killeedy and Newcastle in a thriller. Killeedy and Newcastle under 8 s were in action in the Páirc Íde Naofa Killeedy on Sunday for the annual end of year Magner Shield competition .This was a fantastic game of hurling from these young guns with Newcastle getting off to a great start and racing into an early lead .They had 2-1 on the board after ten minutes and held this lead until half time. Killeedy came out of the break with a new game plan and Rhys Mulcahy put over a spectacular free from the side line to put Killeedy on the score board  A long ball in from Killian Kenny saw John Blackwell flash it to the Newcastle net , things we looking better .Another goal from Newcastle was dealt with in two more great points from star forward Rhys Mulcahy and then another pointed free from 40 yards out by marks man Shane O'Brien .It was tit for tat after this with Finn Moloney driving balls from his own back line to the forwards with Jack White beside him playing great in  defence .Patrick O'Sullivan was all action in the half forward line with some great solo runs . Dillon Cremin was driving balls 60 yards with his puck outs and brought off some great saves in the goals .Rhys McCoy was very unlucky not to have nailed another goal for Killeedy when  the ball went agonisingly   wide of the post .Ronan Lynch played a stormer in the backs .With just one minute to go Finn Moloney pucked the ball to Patrick O'Sullivan who found Ronan Lynch .His low shot  went to Conor Hartigan who made no mistake when he found the net for Killeedy's second goal to let them finish on a score line of 2-4 to 4-1 . On presenting the Magner shield to the Newcastle captain afterwards Maurice Magner praised both sides for a great performance and before  his daughter Maeve presented the delighted Newcaste west team with the trophy . Joe Mulcahy introduced the Killeedy team to the crowd and thanked Pat Horgan and the Newcastle team for making it such a great day . Ciara Hennessy   u 8 co-ordinator made sure all got a nice treat .
