Minor Footballers Progress to the Semi Finals in Style
Our Minor Footballers had two 'must win matches' in the last fortnight to guarantee their position in the last four of the Premier Football Championship. First up were Kildimo/Pallaskenry in the Bog Garden on Tuesday September 6th. With the pitch looking immaculate and with the added bonus of a beautiful autumn evening, there was really no excuse for poor football. Rathkeale stormed out of the blocks with our midfield and forwards proven to be very dominant in the early exchanges. With Seamus Keathing, Darragh O'Grady, Mikey Hickey & Eoin Kelly all scoring heavily the game was really over as a contest at halftime with Rathkeale leading on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-01. The onslaught didn't end there and it was a familiar pattern in the second half with Rathkeale running out very emphatic winners on a final scoreline of 7-28 to 0-02. Three days later Rathkeale were out again, this time Adare provided the oppistion in what was a tougher test under colder playing conditions. Rathkeale were playing against the wind in the first half half and this was a very even contest witg both sides only scoring 2 points in the opening 30 minutes. Rathkeale's defence was playing well with solid performances from Brian Keating, Mulcahy & Lenihan. On the resumption, Rathkeale took over with the strong aid of the wind and with O'Grady, Seamus Keating, Hickey, Shanagher and Eoin Kelly all scoring prominently Rathkeale ran out worth winners by 2-13 to 0-03. Rathkeale will now play Fr Caseys in the semi final, who will no doubt prove to be tough opposition as they have already beaten us in the group stages. Let's get out and support the boys on October 1st in Mick Neville Park at 2pm.
