West Minor 'B'  Football Championship semi final

The minor footballers overcame near neighbours St. Senan's on Saturday evening last to set up a West final date in two weeks time against Drom/Broadford. Saturday'sencounter played in splendid conditions in the Bog Garden Rathkeale was certainly a tale of two halves as the Foynes/Shanagolden combination controlled the opening half and could well have been further ahead were it not for the exploits of Robert Bradley between the posts who kept us in the game with a number of fine saves. A late Patrick O' Connor goal ensured we trailed by five points at the break and in truth we could well have been down more as Senan's dominated proceedings. To the lads credit they upped their game in the second half and fought hard to get back into the game. The introduction of John Hayes and Liam Kennedy up front gave us a good attacking threat and they were to cause a lot of trouble for the Senan's defence. Second half scores from Darragh O' Connor and Hayes ate into the Senans's lead before a John Hayes penalty put us into the lead. Senan's fought hard to get back into the game and were soon back on level terms as the game went into the dying moments. From here further scores from Hayes and Darragh O' Connor put us in the lead and from 1 to 15 the team defended for the livtes to keep the Shannonsiders at bay. At the final whistle we emerged with a hard fought win and a place in the west final.

Team vs St. Senans:

Robert Bradley, JJ Cronin, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Tomas Mullins, John Buckley, Darragh O' Connor, Brian McCarthy, Daniel Power, Cillian Ambrose, Stephen Hennessy. Kaelan O' Connor, Noel Callanan, Patrick O' Connor, Darragh Breen, Colm Copse, Eamon Ambrose, Eoin Burke, John Hayes, Liam Kennedy, Denis Cronin, Stephen Copse

U14 Hurling Semi Final Victory.

Last weekend we played our U14 county Hurling semi-final against Croom in Coolcappa. We had a strong panel and lined out our starting 15 at 11:00. We settled well and scored first, a nice point from play. We tacked on another point and held a 2 point to no score lead for the next 5 minutes or so until we were caught for a well taken Croom goal. Croom piled on the pressure and added 2 more points. Our boys didn't panic and fought back into the game stopping the Croom scoring streak and getting a vital point of their own before half time. We trailed 1 2 to 3 points at half time. We felt that we had more left in reserve and out we went for the second half. This was a great mighty half with lots of excitement for management and spectators alike. We defended brilliantly and scored first in the second half and then got the first of our two 2nd half goals. In a fine tough game we began to edge ahead with good passing movements, great defence and letting the ball move quickly forward. Croom pushed and pushed and were finally rewarded with an opportune second goal. Our boys showed great grit and got back into the game immediately and took some more scores. Final score was 2 6 to 2 2. A tight game but satisfying in that we scored 2 4 of that from play. How about that….What a result for our boys winning their second county semi. Well done boys, a good days work and looking forward to the final fixtures. Finally a huge thanks to our supporters who came to shout us on; it made a huge difference to the lads on the day to be playing in front of home support. Thanks a million and don't forget the U16 football semi-final this weekend.

U13 Hurling Round 3

Last Monday we travelled to Banogue to take on Dromin Athlacca. This was our 3rd round of the U13's and after a defeat to Cappamore last week we needed to get back on track. We started well, however after an often action packed first half we went in down by 4 points to 2. Our boys rallied in the second half and really got stuck in. The 2nd half was a really tough physical battle at times but our boys stepped up to the plate. We were behind for most of the half until we got the all crucial goal from play to push ahead by one point. We went from strength to strength after that and dominated the closing stages to end deserved winners on a score line of 1 goal 7 points (10 points) to 5 points. This was a good display from our boys and they showed what they are capable of once more. Well done lads. Our next match is at home next Monday so keep practicing at home as well boys. Ball, Wall, Window. Our remaining fixtures are as follows (first team at home)

26 Sep 6.30pm- St Kieran's v Cois Laoi Gaels

28 Sep 6.30pm- Croagh/Kilfinny v St Kieran's
