U-13 Hurling:  We beat Adare in the County League

On Saturday 3rd Monaleen U-14 hurlers recorded a great win away to Adare in the County U14A Shield semi-final. Playing into a strong wind in the first half our backs performed brilliantly clearing balls time after time. The game was tied at 2 points apiece at half time. Adare dominated the first 10 to 15 minutes of the second half and things did not look good when they lead 6 points to 2 with 10 minutes to go. Our lads never gave up though and really upped the intensity for the last 10 minutes to score 1 goal and 2 points without reply to run out 1 point winners, 1-4 to 0-6.

We play Doon in the Shield Final next Saturday 17th Sept at 5.30 in South Liberties pitch.

Another busy week with the U14s, U16s and Minors playing Championship

On Tuesday the U14s played their second match which was a 'must win' encounter versus old rivals Mungret. The girls put in a great performance and led from the start with 3 points from Ella Hession. The half back line of Niamh Moloney, Clodagh Power and Lucy D'Arcy were too strong from their opponents and kept Monaleen on the attack. A half time lead of 2-7 to 1-1 was a fair reflection of the game. There were fewer scores in the second half but Monaleen ran out convincing winners 3-11 to 2-1.

Mia O Halloran; Roisin D'Arcy; Aoife Doyle (2-0); Fiona Gleeson: Aoife Nelligan(0-3); Ella Hession (1-6); Sarah Sheehan; Charley Drury; Juliette Pinson; Abby McCarthy; Clodagh Power; Grace Clohessy; Eimear Morgan; Emily O Brien; Rachel Shinnors; Lucy D'Arcy; Amy Kavanagh; Grace Malone; Kerri Carey; Niamh Moloney.

A third win in a row for the U16s on Friday night v Treaty Gaels on the Peafield Road pitch. Aisling Kennedy continued in goal scoring form and these scores kept Monaleen in the game as our opponents started well. By half time Monaleen led by 4 points. Further scores in the second half from Keelan Corcoran, Clodagh Power and AIne Doyle maintained the advantage. Ruth Heavey has a great game in midfield in what was a tough encounter. The final score of Monaleen 7-8 to Treaty Gaels 4-5 means our girls will play a cup semi-final next weekend. It is great for the club to have such a strong group at this age.

Panel: Aisling Kennedy (4-2); Clodagh Power (0-1); Mia O Halloran; Abby McCarthy; Aine Doyle (0-2); Aoife Doyle (3-1); Saoirse Lane; Caitlin Bonfil; Emma Donohoe (0-1); Ellen Regan Magner; Keelin Corcoran (0-1); Eimear Morgan (0-1); Tara Hogan; Ruth Heavey.

This is the first year that Monaleen have fielded a minor team without amalgamating with another club. So it is a positive sign of the development within the club. Our first opponents were competition favourites Murroe Boher. In what proved a very competitive match the young Monaleen team showed their potential and never gave up the fight. Mid way through the first half the scores were level and the gap was 4 points down at half. An early point in the first half was not enough to close the gap and Murroe kept the scoreboard ticking over with some great points. A goal from Aine Doyle after some great play from Ruth Heavey and Robyn McDonnell was not enough to alter the outcome. A win for Murroe Boher 2-14 to 2-5.

Caoimhe Lyons (1-3); Aisling Doyle; Shalini Kujur; Robyn McDonnell; Aisling Kennedy; Aine Doyle (1-1); Ruth Heavey; Ellen Regan Magner; Keelan Corcoran; Aoife O Driscoll; Caitlin Bonfil; Emma Donohoe;
