Paddy Rainsford joined our club with his brother Michael RIP at a young age. He served our club well in many capacities. Paddy was a member of the St Patrick's minor hurling team that defeated Doon in the 1952 County minor hurling championship final. Paddy teammates on that day were Paddy Cunneen, Eric Ryan, Eric Rochford, Paddy Rainsford, Joe Kelly, Jim McNamara, Noel Phelan, Vivian Cobbe, Mick Tuohy, Eric Sexton, Seamus Nestor, Noel Carey, G. Deane, Dan Moloney, Dan O Donovan, Joe Elliott, Pat Phelan, Mick Kelly, Gerry Deane, Don Kelly, Anthony Collopy. Paddy continued playing with the club until 1963 when a serious injury ended his playing career. Paddy helped St Patrick's reach two County senior hurling finals in 1957 and 1959. During his playing career, Paddy was assistant secretary for many years and as a selector was instrumental in St Patrick's winning many underage County titles in hurling and football. Paddy also represented the club at City Board for many years. Paddy emigrated to England in 1964 on his return some years later Paddy renewed his involvement with the club. Paddy's carpentry skills were availed of by the club as for many years Paddy repaired broken hurleys for the club. Paddy's contribution to our great club will always be remembered.
