Minor County Championship

Fr. Casey's 0-12 Rathkeale 0-11

On Tuesday 12th July, Fr. Casey's minor football team played Rathkeale in the second round of the county championship in Abbeyfeale. Rathkeale had the better start and had three points on the board before Paddy Harnett got the home team off the mark in the 12th minute of the game. For the next ten minutes it was point for point with Rathkeale scoring three points at one end and Daniel Lyons registering a score at the other each time. A Shane O'Connell point made it just one between the sides before Rathkeale responded with another one of their own. O'Connell scored his second of the game soon after and Lyons scored his fourth just after Rathkeale raised a white flag to leave the Abbeyfeale men trailing by a solitary score at the half time interval. Three pointed frees from Lyons soon after half time gave Fr. Casey's the lead for the first time in the game and it was one they would never relinquish. Mark Broderick, brother of free scoring senior player Cathal, got his name on the score sheet before Rathkeale got their first of the second period. Paddy Harnett, the man who started the home team's scoring, also finished it with a fine point from play. Rathkeale, who were four behind with time running out, kept pushing on and did manage to score three excellent points but it was not enough to beat the young men from Abbeyfeale. It was a fine performance and the players showed a lot of determination to battle back after a slow start.

Night at the Dogs

On Saturday August 13th, Fr. Casey's GAA Club will be gone to the dogs. This summer our club begins a major field improvement project and the main fundraising event to finance this redevelopment will be our Night at the Dogs at Limerick Greyhound Stadium.

The club are currently selling Nominator and Buster tickets for this event, priced at €20 and €10 respectively. The Nominator tickets, with a 1 in 6 chance of being a winner, will give you free entry to the race night and if your nominated dog comes first then you will win a fabulous hamper. These tickets will be primarily sold to club members, players and supporters within Abbeyfeale. The Buster tickets, with a 1 in 720 chance of being a winner, will give you free entry to the race night and if the race finishes in your given sequence you win a €500 cash prize. These tickets will be primarily sold in neighbouring towns and villages with ticket sellers hitting the roads every Monday and Thursday evening for the coming month. We would really appreciate assistance from all club members with ticket sales, the more than merrier as this will be quiet a big undertaking. We are also very grateful to everyone that purchases a ticket for this event.
