West Senior Football Final
St. Kieran's 1-08
Newcastle West 1-11
An injury time goal proved to be the difference between ourselves and our local rivals in a physical and entertaining encounter in Abbeyfeale on Sunday evening last. We entered the game minus a few players due to holidays and emigration for the summer but were confident of putting in a good performance nonetheless. Newcastle West started the game quicker with their half forward line making some surging runs in the opening quarter which we found difficult to cope with. Newcastle West raced into a 3 point lead before Sean McSweeny opened our account. We began to settle into the game with our defence getting to grips with the opposition attack and went to play some decent football for the remainder of the half. Donie Nolan and Sean McSweeney from placed balls kept the score board ticking over for us. We received a major boost before half time when Sean McSweeney and Anthony Molyneaux linked up to allow Seamus Mangan finish past the Newcastle West goalkeeper and put us into a 1-06 to 0-07 lead at the short whistle.
The second half continued to be nip and tuck with both teams going hammer and thongs for the win. We found scores harder to come by in this half. After 52 minutes played the teams were deadlocked on 0-11 to 1-08 with our scores coming from Sean McSweeney and Jack Harnett. We had a period of possession when we had chances to edge ahead of our opponents but failed to capitalise on these opportunities. We were hit with a sucker punch in the last minute when a long ball into our square fell fortuitously to a Newcastle West substitute who after some gallant defending from Kevin Meade managed to get the ball to his incoming team mate who blasted past Raymond Noonan and win the game for his side.
It was disappointing to lose an absorbing and tough contest in these circumstances but such is the nature of sport. The team performed well for long periods and cannot be faulted for effort or character. We congratulate Newcastle West on their victory.

West Minor Football Championship Round 2
St. Kieran's 4-18
Drom/Broadford 0-02
The minors had a comprehensive victory over Drom/Broadford who lined out with only 13 players on Friday evening last in Coolcappa. With a numerical advantage we were always in control and dominated the game from start to finish. The game gave our management team of Owen Hayes, Mike Flynn and Mike Meade an opportunity to give game time to the entire panel. Next up are Claughaun/Old Christians on Friday evening who will certainly provide a lot tougher challenge to overcome.
Panel: Robert Bradley, Tommy Mullins, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Eamon Ambrose, John Buckley, Dara O'Connor, JJ Cronin, Kealan O'Connor, Cillian Ambrose, Noel Callanan, Pa O'Connor, Brian McCarthy, Colm Copse, Dara Breen, Stephen Copse, John Hayes, Liam Kennedy, Micheal Murphy, Eoin Burke

U14 Hurling
We travelled to Croagh last week to continue our U14 hurling table fixtures. We were up against it in the first half and went into that break down by quite a score. In the second half we played very well and earned a deserved draw at 2 5 apiece. Well done boys and keep practicing for our next match.
U16 Hurling
We played Killmallock on a very sunny evening last Monday. We were down a few players on the evening but still had a good squad. The heat was blistering and water stops were the order of the day. In the first half we held our own but in the second half we were opened up by a much improved Killmallock performance. Hard luck boys, no fault in being beaten by such a strong team.
