U16 Football Opening Round

We started our campaign this year with a well-deserved win away against Newcastle West last Monday. Even though we didn't have a full panel available to us on the night we nonetheless had a very strong panel to select from. From the off we dominated the game and played some fantastic possession passing football, controlling the game. We scored first and quickly began to put our stamp on proceedings. By half time as a result of solid play we led by 2 10 to 1 1. We started the second half at the same pace and began to express ourselves as the game developed. The game ended with us having used all our allowed subs and on a score line of 4 16 to 1 5. It was a good result for our first game and we are looking forward to our next outing.

U12 Football

Last Monday our U12's played Pallasgreen in Coolcappa. We went behind in the early part of the 1st half and soon went down by 1 1 to no score. However our players fought back well and started to tackle hard, defend very well and came back with some scores. We scored a goal on the stroke of half time to go into the break all square at 2 1 apiece.  In the second half we dominated around the midfield area and our forwards got on top with most scoring. We won 4-5 to 2-3. Hooray, great result on a very nice sunny evening in Coolcappa.

Féile Weekend 24/25/26 June

Where do we start, what a weekend it was!! Brilliant, fun, great friends, Football, Craic are some of the words we heard a lot over the weekend. It was a great experience. Newry Shamrocks turned up on the Friday and what a great group of kids and adults they were. They were welcomed with a great reception in the hall and then off to their host families. At this point a huge thanks from the club to the host families without whom we would not have been able to participate in Feile ourselves. Thank ye for the pick-up's, the drop-offs, the lunches, the beds and acting as family to these visiting boys for the weekend.  On Friday evening our four teams gathered in Coolcappa to start the real business of the matches; and wasn't Coolcappa looking well; from flags to buntings, to an ideal pitch and great arrangements. Three games later and then we retired to the hall in Coolcappa to have a welcome cuppa, a bite to eat and a chat with our visitors and neighbours. Saturday morning next and our final game at home, then to be followed by a light lunch in the hall and onto a quarter final in Mick Neville. In terms of results our boys, while they were unlucky not to win, gave some fantastic performances. To be honest the highlight of our games must have been  the match against Derrygonnelly the Fermanagh champions on Friday evening. Our boys were superb and given the majority of our team are underage again next year it was a brilliant match. On Saturday evening we joined 24 other teams to parade around Newcastle west in what was a well-supported parade with lots of singing and chants to boot. Afterwards we went to the Ballintemple to meet with Newcastle west boys, the old Mill girls and their visiting teams. Back to the games and not forgetting our own visiting team Newry Shamrocks who topped our group. They played Askeaton in the quarter final and went on to meet St Gabriel's on Sunday in the Semi-final. On Sunday morning we gathered at the church to wave goodbye to our new friends and then we followed the on to watch their semi-final. They were very good and lost by the cruellest of margins, one point scored in injury time to lose by just that one point. It was a pleasure to see the standard of football played by Newry, the Down Feile Champions. So on Sunday afternoon we finally waved goodbye to Newry, our newly made friends and turned our full attention to support the Old Mill Girls in their semi-final. They were in hard luck on the day but what a team those girls are.

Back to our own Feile and some thanks to give to so many people. Thanks to all the parents for their help and support over the weekend. Thanks to so many people who gave their time, to put up a tent, flags, cones, sell sweets, serve tea, tidy up, the list is endless. Thanks to Moira O Donovan and the Fás team !! Thanks to our great supporters who cheer us on win lose or draw. Again thanks to our host families. Thank to Newry and their supporters. A huge thanks to our boys, our players, didn't they do us proud over the weekend. Finally, a huge huge huge thanks to our Feile Coordinator Deirdre Ambrose for whom no job was to big or no task too small. Newry paid a fitting compliment on our night out where they said they have never experienced such a welcome and a Feile that was so well organised by a club over all their years of participation. So top of the class Deirdre!! An so ends another year of Feile….but guess what….we've heard that Down might be hosting next year so we have something to aim for already boys…..
