SENIOR FOOTBALLERS
Askeaton was the venue for round 2 of the Senior Football Championship on Sunday where we travelled to take on Limerick Club kingpins Dromcollogher Broadford.
Following our first round defeat and poor performance against Oola it was imperative that the team put in a better and improved performance.
Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half we began well and one could sense an improved attitude amongst the players.
We did however realise how tough our task was and after 10 minutes trailed 1-3 to 0-1.
In spite of this deficit we were playing well and creating chances and mid way through the half we were awarded a penalty when center forward Alan Dempsey was upended.
Eoin Hogan cooly dispatched the penalty and now it was game on.
Shortly after we capitalised on a mistake by the Drom goalkeeper and Peter Casey duly accepted the gift to score our second goal.
Further points by Thomas Grimes, Will O Donoghue and Eoin Hogan sent us in at the break 2-8 to 1-5 in front.
The second half we played into the wind and really showed our appetite for the fight.
Our half backs and mid field duo worked tirelessly to gain and keep posession and work the ball into our forwards.
Second half points from Kieran Daly, Alan Dempsey and Eoin Hogan sealed a very good performance and a badly needed 2 points going into the break.
Our best performers on the night were birthday boy Luke Moylan in goals,Tommy Grimes, Will O Donoghue, Eoghan Kehilly and Kieran Daly who was excelllent throughout.
