JUVENILE CLUB NEWS

U11 Football:  Congratulations to our U-11 squad players Joe Fitzgerald, John Ryan, Oisin O'Connor, Evan O'Connell & Darragh Murray who were all picked to play for the Limerick City U-13 Schools team. In addition, Joe Fitzgerald had the honour of captaining the team. Best of luck to the Milford N.S. U-13 team who play Abbeyfeale in the Schools county U-13 semi-final. Club football training will resume in February in UL after the winter break.

U11 hurling: Our U11 squad were on the road again at the weekend to play Doon in a challenge match. As with our previous encounter this was a close and tough contest between two evenly matched and skilful teams. Monaleen raced into a three point lead early on with Muiris O'Dalaigh scoring two fine points in quick succession from full forward in the first minutes of the game. Doon came storming back to score 1-4 without reply to lead by 1-4 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Monaleen team rallied at this stage and started to win their personal duals throughout the field. The defence stood firm with Tony Power, Oisin Toland, Darragh Langan, Darragh Clifford, Oisin Williams, Andrew Clinton, Ben Murnane and Shane Twomey ensuring that Doon were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. A succession of Monaleen points from out the field by John Ryan, Evan O'Connell, Jack Ryan and Joseph Fitzgerald turned the game on its head and the game was sealed when Joseph Fitzgerald careered through the Doon defence and smashed the ball to the roof of the Doon net. Ben Hayes, Scott Lavelle, Oisin Meehan and Conor Treacy worked tirelessly throughout the game to ensure that Monaleen came out on top on a score line of 1-14 to 1-4. Thanks to Doon for hosting us and we look forward to many more closely fought battles over the coming years.
