SENIOR HURLERS

Our senior hurlers are back in the County Senior Hurling final following a very good victory over reigning champions Kilmallock in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

Following last years disappointment the lads were determined to get off to a better start and they duly obliged.

Some excellent scores from County minor Peter Casey,Adrian Breen and Shane Dowling had us in front early as we led 5 points to 1 . However the concession of soft frees brought Kilmallock back into the game.

Once again we extended our lead with some very good points from midfield pairing Will O Donoghue and Alan Dempsey along with continued accuracy fro Shane Dowling to lead at the break 0.12 to 0.7.

On the change of ends and with the aid of the breeze we added a further point but within 3 minutes Kilmallock raised a green flag to make it 0-13 to 1-8.

This spurred the lads into life and some excellent points from Alan Dempsey, Peter Casey, Will O Donoghue and Adrian Breen stretched our lead out to 0-19 to 1-9.

The final ten minutes saw a late fight back from the Champions and deep into stoppage time they got their second goal.

This left the minimum between the teams and with a missed 65 their final chance it was game over and a County berth secured.

A good workmanlike performance with plenty of room for improvement.

Best for Na Piarsaigh were Michael and Peter Casey, Cathal King, Alan Dempsey and Adrian Breen.

Team: Podge Kennedy, Michael Casey, Kieran Breen, Kieran Kennedy, Mike Foley, Ronan Lynch, Cathal King, Alan Dempsey(0-3), William O Donoghue(0-2), David Dempsey, David Breen, Adrian Breen(0-3), Peter Casey(0-5), Shane Dowling(0-7f), Kevin Ryan. Subs: David Sheppard.

Final Score: Na Piarsaigh 0-20 Kilmallock 2-13

JUNIOR HURLERS

Our junior hurlers were also in County action when they took on Ballybricken Bohermore in the County Quarter Final in Claughaun GAA Grounds on Saturday.

Playing into the wind in the first half we kept the scoreboard ticking along courtesy of Kieran Daly, Conor Boylan and Tommy Grimes.

Our backs were hurling well with Conor Houlihan and Tomas Downes particularily prominent.

We trailed at the break 0-6 to 0-5 .

The second half was even enough with scores hard enough to come by.

Evan Egan's free taking (3) kept us in front and some futher scores from Gordon Brown(2), Tomas Grimes and Kieran Daly had us in front in the closing minutes but again were succumbed to some late scores to force the game into extra time and a final score of 1-9 to 0-12.

In extra time points from Evan Egan(2F) and Eoghan Keogh had us ahead by a point at half time.1-11 to 0-15.

On th echange of ends we stretched our lead with an Evan Egan free before Sub Gordon Leonard crashed home the all important goal to end our opponents resistance and see us through to a County semi final on a final score on Na Piarsaigh 1-17  Ballybricken Bohermore 1-13
