CAMOGIE CLUB NEWS
This was a big week for Monaleen Camogie club's championship aspirations with 5 important matches played at U12, U13 and Junior
On Tuesday the U12's beat Templeglantine 2-8 to 1-1 in the A League. This was an important win but also gave the girls a tough game and plenty of confidence heading into their Semi Final Replay with Crecora on Thursday. The game with Crecora followed the pattern of the drawn game and at full time, in a tight affair, it was Monaleen 2-3 to Crecora's 3-0 - another draw. In extra time our girls pulled clear scoring 6 unanswered points to win 2-9 to 3-0.
The final on Sunday was against Newcastle West. Monaleen dominated the game with player of the match Ella Hession in great scoring form and ran out comfortable winners 4-5 to 0-1. A great win in an A county final with our delighted captain Mia O'Halloran accepting the cup for Monaleen - County Champions 2015!
Panel: Mia O Halloran; Charley Drury, Emily O Halloran, Caoimhe Brady, Aoife Sheehan, Aoife Nelligan, Aoife Doyle, Amy Burke, Grace Clohessy, Ella Hession, Ella McCarty, Juliette Pinson, Caitlin Power, Emily O Brien, Laura Brennan, Clodagh Power, Niamh Moloney, Fiona Gleeson, Kerri Carey.
Our U13s had qualified for the A plate final with Crecora and on Saturday in South Liberties played out an exciting game. Crecora dominated the opening half and only a goal from Ella Hession kept Monaleen in touch. Although with scores from Grace Clohessy and Aoife Doyle Monaleen outscored Crecora in the second half it was not enough to win the game. A great performance on the day from all the girls.
Panel: Rachel Murphy, Aoife Nelligan, Aoife Doyle, Emma Donohoe, Emma Rea, Ella Hession, Roisin Darcy, Lucy Darcy, Sarah Sheehan, Abby McCarty, Mia O'Halloran, Grace Clohessy, Charley Drury, Clodagh Power, Juliette Pinson, Niamh Moloney, Emily O Brien.
On Sunday evening our Juniors - Shannonside - played Templeglantine on the clubhouse pitch. Our girls were too strong for the visitors running our 6-6 to 0-5 winners to ensure a place in the county semi final.
