SENIOR HURLERS
Our senior hurlers were in Championship action on Sunday evening when they travelled across town to Clarina.
Our opponents on this occasion were Croom in the final group game of the Championship.
The first half was a tight contest with scores hard to come by.
We had some good points from David Dempsey(2),Kevin Downes(2), Peter Casey(2),Shane Dowling free and a goal and a point from David Breen. David's goal coming following a superb pass from Shane Dowling.
However our indiscipline allowing Croom to stay in touch and Conor Allis punishing us at every indiscretion.
We led at the break by 2 points 1-8 to 0-9
The second half we upped the tempo and hurled a little better.
Mike Casey,Ronan Lynch and Cathal King were to the fore in defence while in midfield Kevin Ryan and USA returnee Willy O Donoghue put in a hard shift.
Up front David Dempsey, David Breen and Peter Casey were to the fore showing great energy and work rate.
Kevin Downes also showing glimpses of his undoubted class with 2 quick fire goals to all but seal our fate.
Adrian Breen adding a fourth in the closing stages to send us through to a semi final spot in a few weeks time.
Final score Na Piarsaigh 4-18 Croom 0-14
We wish the Croom goalkeeper Ger Flynn the very best wishes following a nasty looking eye injury during the game.
