Ballybrown club notes

August 17, 2015

All in Ballybrown would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the late Maureen Coughlan (nee Garvey). May she rest in peace.

BALLYBROWN SPORTS DAY For years we have talked of reviving the Annual sports day in Ballybrown. Well this year our Juvenile club are doing just that, on this Sunday 23rd August at 2pm. There are many events from a full program of races for all the kids to novelty events like The Three legged Race, The BBQ, The Donkey Derby, Crossbar Challenge and Adult Races  and lots more, so plenty for all the family. Come along and enjoy the day.

GET WELL WISHES To Packie McNamara and Eamonn Quinn who are both in Hospital at the moment and hopefully will be up and around again shortly.

UNDER 14 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Ballybrown1.11 Murroe Boher 2.04 Played in Boher on Wednesday 12 th August. Ballybrown arrived knowing that a win would be enough to secure us a semi final spot in this year's county championship. Ballybrown set about the task very well and were up 1.07 to 0.01 at half time with the goal having come from the stick of Mark Mulally. Murroe would have been disappointed with the half time score though, as they had pressed us much harder in that half than the scoreline suggests. The second half continued the same pattern with Murroe giving us a good hard match. With less than five minutes to go Ballybrown were still in a very commanding position leading by ten points 1.11 to 0.04. Two late goals for Murroe put a fairer reflection on the match, and we were relieved to hear the final whistle. Ballybrown have qualified for the semi final with one match to go. Our last match before the country semifinal is against what we know is a very good Crecora team.

MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Ballybrown 2.12 Ballybricken Bohermore 5.07 The old adage that goals win matches could not have been more apt than at Ballybricken on Tuesday evening. Ballybrown started brightly but after some poor shooting it was Ballybricken who were first on the scoreboard with two points, Ballybrown responded well and three points on the trot saw Ballybrown take the lead for the first time. Two goals between the twelfth and fourteenth minutes for Ballybricken rocked Ballybrown however, and we were down five points. Ballybrown continued to press forward and two points had reduced the deficit to three points. Twenty-one minutes gone and goal number three for Ballybricken had us back in a hole once again. Ballybrowns response once again was excellent and three points had once again cut the deficit to three points, when goal number four went in for Ballybricken to again extend their lead by six. On the stroke of half time Luke Doran raised a green flag for Ballybrown to once again put three points between the teams Ballybrown 1.08 Ballybricken 4.02. Ballybricken were first off the mark with a point from a free in the first minute of the second half. A goal for Niall Quane after good work from Dean Garvey, and a point again from Niall Quane followed by a point from Cillian O Reilly and Ballybrown had taken the lead. Ballybrown were completely on top at this stage but failed to convert their supperiority into scores, including Cillian O Reillys bullet that came back off the butt of the post and several wides. Our supporters feared the worst and a rare raid by Ballybricken into our half of the field proved those fears to be well founded as Ballybrickens fullforward struck for goal number five and Ballybrown were behind by two points once again. Maybe that was the score that broke our lads as Ballybricken got on top for what I feel was the only time in the match and they finished the stronger outscoring us four points to two in the last ten minutes of the game to run out winners by four points. Ballybrown will feel disappointed to have once again lost a game that was within their grasp, and will need to start getting results if they are to earn that precious semi final spot.

INTO MINI SEVENS: The Cumann na mBunscol INTO /Respect Exhibition Go Games

STRICTLY COME DANCING Strictly Come Dancing has come to Ballybrown. The twenty-four dancers start their training on Thursday night 20th August and a lot of hard work lies in front of them. Along the way they will require your support be it financial, physical or emotional so please help out in any way you can to make this an occasion to be proud of.

Q3 SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Ballybrown play Doon in round five of this years Championship on Sunday 30th August at 6.30 in Kilmallock, knowing that a win will put us through to the quarter final. The group was a very strong one and to be now clear of relegation and sitting in second place in the table with a match to go has been a great achievement so far. Doon will undoubtedly be favourites going into this game and we will need to be at our best, and with our supporters behind us once again for what will be a huge occasion for the club.
