All County Football League Division 1

St. Kieran's 1-10
Newcastle West 1-12
Our senior footballers entertained Newcastle West on Tuesday evening last in Coolcappa in their latest County League encounter. Both sides lined out minus players on the night but had relatively strong teams out nonetheless. We played with the breeze in the opening half and enjoyed a lion's share of possession in the early exchanges. We had early scores from Jack Ben Hartnett, Niall O'Shea and Diarmuid Crowley. We received a timely boost midway through the opening half when Anthony Molyneaux despatched a penalty kick to the roof of the Newcastle West net after John Doyle was dragged down inside the square. We led at the short whistle on a score of 1-08 to 0-05.
Newcastle West enjoyed a period of dominance after the restart and began to win more possession around the midfield area. They were providing their inside forward line with better quality ball as a result. We continued to battle hard but were finding breaks hard to come by. The game continued to be nip and tuck throughout the second half with the team's level with 7 minutes remaining following scores from Raymond Cahill and Anthony Molyneaux. Our rivals edged ahead of us just before the final whistle from two long range scores and held out for the win.
This concludes our involvement in the league for 2015. The loss leaves our League Division 1 status in jeopardy for 2016 as we will be relying on other results to avoid relegation. Our next outing is against Na Pairsaigh in Round 4 of the County Championship on the weekend of the 8th/9th of August in a must win game.

West Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final
St. Kieran's 3-07
Feohanagh 3-11
We travelled to Croagh on Friday evening last to take on Feohanagh in the quarter final of the West Intermediate hurling championship. Heaving defeated Croagh/Kilfinny in the previous round, we were hopeful of putting in a good performance against the 2014 County Junior 'A' champions. Numbers were extremely tight on the night with only 15 players available for selection due to injuries, work, holidays etc. Feohanagh started the game quicker, racing into a 1-05 to 0-02 lead after twenty minutes before we fully got up to the pace of the game. We upped our work rate before the break, raising green flags from Anthony Molyneaux and Jonathan Ruttle to bring us back into the game. We led by at half time on a score of 2-03 to 1-05.
Feohanagh again started quickly after the restart. They took the lead shortly after the interval and extended their lead to 6 points midway through the second half. We then got points from Raymond Cahill and Michael Enright, and a goal from a free from Anthony Molyneaux to reduce the deficit. Feohanagh's strength and depth in their panel began to show as the game entered its concluding stages as they tagged on scores to put the contest out of our reach. The team must be given credit on the night for putting in a spirited performance with such a depleted panel and lining out with a number of players with limited experience at intermediate hurling level.
Panel: John Greaney, James Windle, Paudie McCarthy, James O'Connor, Sean Windle, Brendan McCarthy, Maurice Shine, Jack Ben Hartnett, Raymond Cahill, Padraig Trant, Anthony Molyneaux, Michael Enright, Cillian Ambrose, Jonathan Ruttle, Paddy Hartnett

Intermediate Hurling
The intermediate hurlers face fellow West Limerick side Feenagh/Kilmeedy in Round 4 of the County Intermediate hurling championship tonight. In our last championship game we suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Cappamore but will be hoping for a more energetic display tonight. Consistency has been an issue for us with performance levels varying a great deal from game to game. If we are to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition we must claim maximum points from this fixture. Feenagh/Kilmeedy, under the tutelage of legendary Limerick hurler Mike Houlihan and with an abundance of pace and skill in their side, will no doubt provide formidable opposition. All support welcome.

U16 Hurling
Our 16 U16 boys travelled to the Bog Garden to play St Marys last Monday, in conditions more like December than July. Playing with the wind in the first half they quickly asserted themselves and settled into a good rhythm. They finished the half strongly on a score of 2 9 to 1 point. Half time instructions were dispatched and off they went again. As expected St Marys attacked hard with the wind and almost from the off got a goal back. Then our lads established what was to be the pattern of the 2nd half, trading score for score.  We finished out deserved winners on a score of 5 12 to 4 1, good scoring on a bad night.

U12 Hurling
Last Thursday we hosted St Marys in Coolcappa and despite holidays we were able to field a strong team of 13.  This was a good game of hurling and our lads played good passing hurling and indeed some great ground hurling. It's easy to see the lads who are practicing for the few minutes on days during their holidays; great to see the improvements this is brining. On the night we picked off some great scores and defended very well. On the final whistle we finished as deserved winners on a score of  3 5 to 1 2.
