Limerick chairman condemns abuse

Limerick Chairman Oliver Mann

Limerick GAA chairman Oliver Mann has furiously condemned the people that have verbally and through social media abused the county's hurlers and management team.

Following last weekend's defeat to Dublin in the All-Ireland SHC qualifiers, Limerick manager TJ Ryan was approached by an irate supporter at the final whistle, while Shane Dowling was also involved in an altercation with a supporter as he made his way down the tunnel after the game.

Others took to social media to express their anger at the team's performances and singled out players for abuse, which Mann told the Limerick Leader was unacceptable.

"I know that players got some very, very strong verbals coming off the field and I know the manager, because I was within five or six paces of him, was insultingly abused and that's just to put it mildly," said Mann.

"No matter what the result is, no matter how passionate you are, you have to control that. To subject anybody, who gives the amount of time that these guys give voluntary, to that type of abuse is totally wrong. As chairman of the county board I condemn that abuse."
