Limerick Camogie Notes 14/7
Limerick's Junior lose out to Armagh

Limerick 1-11 (0-2) Armagh 1-15 (1-4)

Liberty Insurance Premier Junior Camogie Championship - Round 2

Sun 12th July at 2.30pm in Middletown, Co. Armagh

Limerick's Premier Junior side made the long trip to Middletown in Co. Armagh for their second round clash with the Orchard County only to be lose out after a well fought game by 1-11 to 1-15.

Whether it was the long trip to Armagh or not but Limerick were slow to start in the first half and despite scores from Claire Keating, who was unerring from placed ball throughout, and Ellanna Mulcahy trailed by 0-6 to 0-11 at half-time.

A brighter start to the second half saw Limerick close the gap and when captain Bríd Hannan jumped to handpass a breaking ball into the net to put a point between the teams it looked like a comeback might be on the cards.

Limerick indeed levelled shortly after from a Claire Keating free leaving the score Limerick 1-10 Armagh 0-13. However Armagh got a goal of their own shortly afterwards to put the game beyond Limerick.

Donna Mulcahy got the final score of the game for Limerick to leave the score Limerick 1-11 Armagh 1-15. A disappointing result but with three matches to play semi-final qualification remains very much within the grasp of this side. Next Sunday they host a Laois side in Ballingarry who have been beaten finalists in 2013 and 2014. The match will be a double header with the U16A clash with Wexford.

Limerick v Galway - Senior Preview

Limerick's Senior side return to action on Sunday with a visit to Galway for their final group game. Results at the weekend have meant that qualification from group 1 has been decided with Galway securing the semi-final slot and Cork and Wexford the quarter final slots. A win for Limerick would mean they could finish level on points with the loser of the Cork Wexford clash but the head to head results mean that Limerick cannot progress.

However the Sarah Carey lead side will be looking to finish their campaign on a high note and how better to do this than with a win against the 2013 All-Ireland champions. The two sides have met twice in the league over the past two years with Limerick winning at home in 2013 and drawing away earlier this year.

Paul Beecher Blitz in Portmarnock

Limerick's U14 and U15 development sides had a very successful day at the Paul Beecher Blitz in Portmarnock on Saturday. The U14 B team won the B competition defeating Dublin in the final. The U14 A side got to the final of the A Plate but lost out narrowly to Tipperary. Finally the U15 side also performed well but lost out at cup semi-final stage to Dublin.

These development blitzes are an important part of the Camogie Calendar and a crucial part of the development of Limerick Camogie. All three sides will have further outings over the summer culminating for the U14s with the All-Ireland Blitz on the eve of the All-Ireland Camogie finals.
