All County Football League Division 1

St. Kieran's 1-09
St. Patrick's 0-09
Saint Patrick's provided the opposition in our latest County League fixture in Coolcappa on Tuesday evening last. We lined out with a relatively strong side, though we were minus a few regulars on the night. With wind and rain driving towards the dressing room goals, we elected to play with the advantage of the elements in the opening half.  We started brightly and raced into a 3 point lead with scores courtesy of Anthony Molyneaux, Sean Windle and Johnny McCarthy. Jack Ben Hartnett found the back of the net shortly after following good work from Shane Lynch and Cillian Enright, who was making his senior debut and acquitted himself capably on the night. Saint Patrick's began to claw their way back into the game, scoring 4 points from placed balls to leave the half time score St. Kieran's 1-5, St. Patrick's 0-04.
The second half turned out to be a nervy and tense affair with each ball being fought for courageously. We kept the score board ticking over with scores from Niall O'Shea, Anthony Molyneaux and Brendan McCarthy. St. Patrick's pressed us hard in the second half and we defended bravely denying the opposition the all important goal they were going in search of. Robert Bradley, Paudie McCarthy and James O'Connor must be mentioned for their efforts in defence in this period when we were under the cosh for long periods. We were reduced to fourteen men with 10 minutes remaining when one of our players received their marching orders in what was a very dubious and contentious decision by the referee. However, we held out for the win against the Rhebogue based outfit and claimed the points on the night. The game was a good workout in terms of preparation for the next all important championship game against Na Piarsaigh in early August. We have one remaining league game to play against Newcastle West before this fixture.
Panel: Robert Bradley, James O'Connor, Paudie McCarthy, Kevin Meade, Michael Windle, John Doyle, Brendan McCarthy, Sean Windle, Johnny McCarthy, Jack Ben Hartnett, Anthony Molyneaux, Shane Lynch, Cillian Enright, Niall O'Shea, Maurice Shine, Patrick Histon, Eoin Moran, James Morrisroe, Anthony Mullins, Paddy Hartnett

U16 Hurling
Last Thursday week we visited Crecora to take on Kilpeacon. We were down on numbers and despite a slightly confusing start from our opposition we started with 14 a side. Our boys played well and settled well into the stride of things. It was a great night for hurling and we played well. We had some outstanding performances on the night and finished well deserved winners. This Monday we played Tournafulla in Coolcappa and we proved too strong on the night finishing out winners by 3 19 to 9 points. Some great hurling and scoring, well done boys.

U16 Football
Not to be outdone by the hurlers our footballers lined out last Monday week in Coolcappa to play Athea, indeed some of our players travelled from the western tip of the kingdom to make the match tonight! Athea were on a strong run with 4 wins under the belt but we started undaunted by this good record. It was a fast and often toughly fought match and at one stage we were up by 2 clear goals. Athea fought back and reduced the margin to two points and after a ferocious final 3 minutes the final whistle sounded with Kieran's well deserved victors by 2 points, 3 7 to 2 8.

U14 Football
Last week New castle west travelled to Coolcappa to play us in the next round of U14 championship. We started strongly and by half time led by 2 9 to 3 points. however we knew Newcastle would come back and come back they did. With 4 minutes left in the second half they scored their last goal to draw level. However our boys dug deep and fought back up the field to get two more points to win finally by that margin. Well done boys, unbeaten run continued.

U12 hurling
We played Crecora last Thursday night and really this was probably the best game of hurling we played all year. Things clicked for us on the night and we ran out comfortable winners in the end by 8 12 to 1 goal. While we were the strongest team on the night it does not take away from the boys skilful display and hunger to win the game.

U12 Football Challenge
Newcastle west travelled to Ardagh last Monday to play us in a challenge match. This was great practice for both sides with very little between the teams. There was some great flowing football played on the night and in the end there was only one kick of a ball to separate both teams after nearly an hour of end to end football. Challenges like this are great as we got to test some players in different positions. Well done boys, good match and thanks to Newcastle for travelling out to us on the night.

Congratulations
Congratulations to John Hayes, Eoin McEnery, Michael Shanahan and Dylan Moloney who represented St Kieran's two weeks ago on the county U14 football  team in a Munster tournament in Dungarvan last weekend. On the day Eoin, John and Michael played with Dylan unfortunately out due to injury. Not only that but John captained the first game against Cork while Michael captained the 2nd game against Kerry. The boys represented themselves, their families and our club very well on the day. Well done boys, all those early Saturday mornings were worth the effort. Also congratulations to our Limerick U14 all-Ireland champions. Great win and well done to Iris Kennelly and Sophie Hennessy from our neighboring old mill club.
