Hurlers bounce back with victory over Kileedy
Our junior hurlers got their championship campaign back on track with a well merited win over Kileedy last Sunday night in Coolyrue. Seamus McNamara (Fr Caseys) was refereeing and the game was played in good conditions in front of a large crowd of spectators. Half time scores saw Kileedy 1-7 to 0-06 ahead but a spirited display from the Rathkeale lads saw them close out the game 3-14 to 2-13 ahead. It would be fair to say that this result was a major upset as this was Kileedy's first Junior Hurling championship game for their first team in a good many years as they were relegated from Intermediate level at the end of last season. The result puts Rathkeale right back in the frame, following their opening round defeat to Monagea a week earlier, as they seek to secure one of the 3 qualifying spots for the knock-out stages from the group of 5.
Rathkeale Team: Keith Harnett, Timmy O'Connor, Patrick Sheahan, Jack Coleman, Martin Roche, Sean O'Shea, Daren Jones, Seamus Keating, Shane Hourigan, John O'Connor, Kieran O'Donovan, Eoghan O'Connor, Padraig Jones, Damien Quaid, Eoin O'Donnell. Subs: Mikey Morrissey (for Kieran O'Donovan), Evan Lenihan (for John O'Connor), Gearoid Mulcair for Padraic Jones, Liam Walsh & Jimmy Dillane.
Next up for Rathkeale will be Adare on Thurs 16th July, followed by Templeglantine on 19th July.
Senior Footballers
Our senior footballers are in action this Tuesday evening, June 30th against Na Piarsaigh in the Senior All County League. We currently lie 4 points adrift of the city table toppers with two games in hand. A win would put us right back in the mix. Best of luck to all involved, throw in is at 7.30pm in the Bog Garden.

Large crowd for senior hurling game in the Bog Garden.
Last Saturday night saw us hosting the first county senior hurling championship game in a long time, when Ballybrown defeated Bruff in front of a large crowd. Thanks to all our voluntary stewards who ensured the event ran without a hitch. It was great to see the fine crowd there and a good match also. It really felt like the years were rolled back at one of the oldest GAA venues in the county. Hopefully many more to come.
