JUVENILE CLUB NEWS

Results and Fixtures
• U16 Hurling The U16 team played the second match of the championship when they travelled the short distance to play old rivals Ahane. Matches had been very close between these groups of lads over the years but this time Monaleen had the upper hand. A close first half ended with only 2 points between the teams but Monaleen struck for 3 quick goals in the second half and ran out winners by a score of 3-20 to 1-10
• U16 Football The U16 footballers were also in championship action and had a good win over Mungret on a score of 2-8 to 2-5
• U14 Football Our footballers had a league match away to Newcastlewest and despite a game effort early on, a few things went wrong and our opponents put up a big score in the second half to win comfortably. Bright side was two goals from Caolan Dignam, the second of which was very well finished after a lovely build up of passing play from Caolan Madden and Niall McGrath. John Moloney imposed himself well at centre back in this game and Micheal O'Hanrahan and Darragh Killeen worked tirelessly in midfield throughout. However, the team as a whole just weren't cohesive on the night and we need to correct that the next day.
• U14 Hurling  The hurling team were very happy to come away from a tough league game in Pallasgreen with a two point win. Having trailed by six at half time, there was a great second half fightback. Final score 4-10 to 3-11.
On the Sunday morning of the Limerick-Tipperary senior match, we welcomed Holycross from Tipperary to Monaleen and enjoyed a good game of hurling. We had close to a full squad available, and completely dominated the first half, setting up a big lead. There was a good spread of scores from all of the forward unit. Holycross shook off their slow start and battled much better to win the second half. Monaleen had done more than enough damage early on that the result was never in doubt.
• In our next league match we lost to Ballyhoura Gaels
• U12 Hurling We travelled to Newcastle West GAA to play them in the league. This was our first ever outing to NCW and it didn't take us long to realise that we were playing a formidable team. On a pitch in excellent condition, NCW took an early lead and despite some super effort from Shane Twomey (in goals), Eric Stritch, Declan Aylward, Noel Clancy, Dylan Crowe and Joseph Fitzgerald, NCW maintained and built their lead throughout the game to win 4-6 to 1-7. This game brought to an end a fantastic run of wins this year. Although we were missing some key players our team learned a lot from their performance and will bounce back. Well done to NCW on a good win and a sporting game. Playing for Monaleen were Shane Twomey, Declan Aylward, Darragh Connaughton, Ben Hayes, Eoin Dignam, Dylan Crowe, Joseph Fitzgerald, Evan O'Connell, Noel Clancy, Eric Stritch, Max Ivory, Robert O'Sullivan (C), John Foley, Mark Naughton and Caimin Hannon. Our next league game is at home in Peafield to Mungret Thursday July 9th6.45pm.

CAMOGIE CLUB NEWS

• U10 Camogie. On Saturday 20th June we hosted our U10 Camogie Cluster Blitz on the clubhouse field. Teams from Na Piarsaigh, Patrickswell, Tipperary rivals Newport & 2 teams from Monaleen took to the field  in glorious sunshine & provided the crowd with some fantastic games. There was terrific skill on view & some of the goals & points scored especially by the home teams were a joy to watch. All the hard work & training is definitely paying off & the 26 girls who played did Monaleen proud. Thanks to all who helped out on the morning & especially the referees Caitlin Bonfil, Emma Donohue, Aisling Doyle, Aine Doyle, Aisling Kennedy who did a great job. Thanks also to the many parents who cheered on from the sidelines, a great morning was had by all.
• Monaleen U10 played Na Piarsaigh at 1/2 time in The Limerick v Cork Senior Camogie match in Kilmallock last Saturday. Playing in front of a large crowd Monaleen started brightly with midfield pairing of Aoife O'Brien & Amie O'Brien gaining the upper hand and delivering good ball to the forwards. Saoirse Fallon & Laura Southern caused the defence all kinds of problems & left quality balls to the inside forward line of Sadbh Connolly & Faye Coffey who were dangerous every time they got the ball. Pressure finally told when Laura scored a goal after some great team play and we started playing with even more confidence.

Ella O'Halloran & Katie Sheehan tackled bravely & denied Na Piarsaigh any opportunities to get into the game by clearing an amount of ball showing great skill. Na Piarsaigh's only source of threat at this stage was to try and put long high ball into their forwards from puck outs but with Ellie Madden & Ciara Buckley in outstanding form at the back the ball was driven fast back down the field. Abi Houlihan had little to do in goals but when we brought her out to midfield she tore into the game & sent quality ball towards goal including a fine sideline cut. The first touch of all the girls was brilliant & when Ellie ran onto a low ball gathered it first time & sent a high ball over the goalkeeper from long range there was a big cheer from the large support.

We kept piling on the pressure & Laura, Faye, Saoirse & Sadbh were unlucky not to add more scores. Amie, Ella, Abi & Aoife pulled on everything & Ciara, Ellie & Katie gained 1st time possession every time. We had a great day & celebrated in McDonalds afterwards. All the training & matches are helping to develop this team & the remaining 20 plus players who couldn't play on the day into a very good side, Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for all the parents for making the effort to travel out & support. Hard Luck to Monaleen senior players Caoimhe & Megan who were unlucky not to get a result against All Ireland champions Cork in the senior match.
