Co. Senior Football League

St. Kieran's 0-12
Drom/Broadford 3-07
We travelled to Dromcolloger on Tuesday evening last to take on the home side in the County League. This was our first outing since being narrowly defeated by Newcastle West in the County Championship. Numbers were tight on the night with only 16 players available for selection. Robert Bradley and Eoin Moran were also making their debuts at senior level for the club. We were slow to start with Drom/Broadford finding the net twice in the opening quarter. We slowly began to get into the game with scores from Sean Windle, Anthony Molyneaux and an outstanding effort from veteran Patrick Histon off his weaker left foot from out near the sideline. At half time Drom/Broadford led by 3-02 to 0-07.
We continued to battle hard in the second half and were unlucky not to get more scores when we had our period of dominance. We were unable to reduce the deficit, leaving Drom/Broadford leading by 4 points at the final whistle on a score of 3-07 to 0-12. The game was a worthwhile exercise and dusted off the cobwebs for some of our players who have had limited game time as of late. We face the same opposition in our next senior football outing in the West Championship quarter final replay which has yet to be fixed.
Panel: Robert Bradley, Eoin Moran, Michael Windle, James O'Connor, Kevin Meade, John Doyle, Shane Lynch, Sean Windle, Donie Nolan, Jack Ben Hartnett, Anthony Molyneaux, Maurice Shine, Brian Crowley, Niall O'Shea, Patrick Histon, Paddy Hartnett
Intermediate Hurling
The intermediate hurlers are in championship action this evening against East Limerick side, Cappamore, in Clarina. If we are to keep our qualification hopes alive it will be important to pick up points from this game. A win would put us second in the group behind Mungret and leave us in a good position entering the final two group games. Cappamore, steeped in hurling tradition, will start as favourites having defeated us comfortably last year. However, if we can play to our potential and have some luck on the night we should be highly competitive. We appeal to all supporters to travel and get behind the team.

U12 Hurling
Last Thursday we visited Na Piarsaigh in Limerick. We had a good turnout on the night and stated the game playing with the wind. Na Piarsaigh started very strong and soon put up a good lead. Our boys got into the game and showed some good skills. However our opposition prove too strong on the night giving us a good tough match. So no shame in been beaten by a good team and it shows us we have some work to do at training.

U11 Football
On Monday night our U11 footballers met St Senans. The match was very enjoyable and we were glad to finish out with a win scoring 3 8 to Senans 1 2.Well done boys
 U14 Hurling
We met Drom/Broadford last Wednesday night in Coolcappa looking for our first win of the campaign. Our boys did well in a game where an unusual amount of goals were scored by both sides. Importantly we showed well in the second half and played strongly right to the final whistle in this game. It was great to get a win on the night and we finished out winners by 8 7 to 7 5, at 15 goal blitz.

U14 Regional Feile Football Finals
Last Saturday we boarded the bus at 8:30 in Ardagh eager to get to Portlaoise to begin our Regional Feile matches. There were eight teams there on the day divided in two groups as follows
GROUP 1
GROUP 2
An Gaeltacht, Waterford
St Kieran's, Limerick
Na Fianna, Offaly
Kilcoo, Down
Creggan, Antrim
Killeshin Crettyard, Laois
St Kevins, Louth
Carrigaline, Cork

Our first match was against Kilcoo of Down and they got off to a flying start with a goal straight from the throw in. Before we knew it we were 3 2 to no score down. But as we all know, our boys never ever lie down and by half time against the wind we had fought back to trail by 4 2 to 2 1. The second half began and unfortunately Down proved too strong overall but our lads played some great football much to the delight of our large travelling St Kieran's supporters. This Down team was probably the best opposition we have met in a long time. Their passing and near-hand tackling was superb. It was great to test ourselves against Down and no shame for us in losing on the day to a score of 6 4 to 2 5.
Each match was 30 minutes with a break of about 10 minutes so pretty soon we had to line out for our second match against Killeshin Crettyard of Laois. They had won their first match against Carrigaline and being the home team they had their sights on the place in the final. However we had other plans! We talked honestly after the first match. The boys said they wanted to get through to the final and that albeit they could not undo the Down result, they were ready for Laois. From the throw in we were excellent. Our vision on and off the ball was supreme. Quite quickly we had built up a strong lead and at half time we were happy with our performance. The second half started swiftly and we resumed with style. We saw out Laois, winning by 3 5 to 1 6 and then got word that Carrigaline had beaten Kilcoo so it meant the table was wide open again, each team had one win and one loss. Well done Boys, back in the game!
Again we had a quick Turnaround and lined out against a really big Carrigaline team from Cork. The first half went by quickly and despite owning most of the possession we failed to score enough and went into the break down two points. Again the determination of the boys was spot on and out they went in the second half to give it one last go, unfortunately against a gale of wind. Really this second half was end to end football and despite trying very hard we could not put Cork away. We fought like tigers and brought the deficit down to 1 point with 4 minutes left. In the last 3 minutes we hit the crossbar once and the upright 3 times as we pushed for a goal. In the end Carrigaline broke down the field and scored a cruel goal to put daylight between the teams. On the day we matched them for amounts of scores, each team scoring 8 times but unfortunately Carrigaline got more goals. The final whistle sounded and we were defeated by 3 5 to 1 7, only 4 points, two kicks of a ball separating two great teams. Indeed there was no shame in this loss; as Carrigaline who put us out of the competition then went on to win the Final against Na Fianna of Offaly and were crowned champions by 2 points. This shows how close we were on the day.

Overall we were very competitive on the day and it gives us a good idea of where we stand against other counties. So from St Kieran's club we want to say well done boys; we are very proud of how ye played on the day and how you represented your club. Our panel of players on Saturday was as follows, Dan Duggan, Aidan Brouder, Shane Murphy, Liam Liston, Thomas Tracey, Michael Shanahan, Daniel Geraghty, John Hayes, Eoin McEnery, Rory Forrestal, Mike Conlon, Jordan Ryan, Jack Enright, Arron O Connor, Kevin Guinea, Sean Kelly, Declan Kennedy, William Steele, Cathal McEnery, Sean Ryan, Cormac Mann and Conor Woulfe. Also travelling on the day but unable to play due to injury were Dylan Moloney and Conor Power. Also a big thanks to Paul Woulfe, Garry Kelly and Donie McEnery who had the tough job of picking the starting 15 from such a competitive panel. Finally thanks to all the travelling supporters who made their way to Laois to shout us on. It was a great treat to have you there shouting on our boys in green and gold. Well done boys!
