SENIOR HURLERS

Our senior hurlers were in County Senior Hurling Championship round 3 action when they travelled to Clarina to take on Adare on Thursday.

We made several enforced changes from our previous outing due to travel and injury but nevertheless the core of the side was still quite strong.

We began quite sluggishly and were in arrears following the concession of a soft goal.

Points from Adrian Breen(2), David Dempsey, Peter Casey and the accuracy of Shane Dowling from frees kept us well in the game but again some poor defending allowing our opponents a second goal to lead at the break 2-10 to 0-9.

Things didn't improve much on the change of ends and at one stage we trailed by 10 points.

However it was Adrian Breen who sparked some life into our challenge raising a green flag.

Shane Dowling continued to chip away at the lead with some fine pointed frees before Adrian Breen bagged his second goal and so a draw from what seemed an unassailable lead.

A fine fighting spirit was shown in that second half but no doubt management have a lot to ponder prior to our final two games of the Championship.

Team: Padraic Kennedy, Josh O Halloran, Niall Buckley, Kieran Kennedy, Michael Foley, James O Brien, Cathal King, Pat Gleeson, David Breen(0-2), David Dempsey(0-1), Shane Dowling(0-10,8f), Kevin Downes(0-2), David Sheppard, Adrian Breen(2-3), Peter Casey(0-1), Subs Used: Ronan Lynch, Kevin Ryan

UNDER 14 HURLERS

Our under 14 hurlers faced a very important fixture on Wednesday evening in a must win game against a strong Murroe Boher side in Pairc Dromguil.

We hit the ground running and stormed out of the blocks playing strongly all over the field.

We raised our first green flag after a few minutes when Harry O Donnell duly dispatched a penalty.

This was swiftly followed by a John Moloney goal before Harry again stepped up to send his second penalty to the net.

A fourth goal from the menacing John O Connor had us in control at the break 4-3 to 1-4.

We were playing very spirited stuff now and further goals from full forward John Moloney, John O Connor and Emmett McEvoy sealed our fate in what was a very good victory.

We had good performances from Dean O Donnell, Evan Sheehan,Niall Barrett and Keith Dempsey in defence whilst further up the field John Moloney spearheaded the attack very well with 3 well taken goals.

Harry O Donnell also showed some great accuracy from placed balls to keep the scoreboard ticking over and John O Connor at corner forward always a threat close to goals.
